Bought by Paulaner in 1996, Thurn and Taxis is a Munich brewery born from the Thurn and Taxis family. The family is famous in Germany for the creation of the countries postal service, which has even inspired a Thurn and Taxis board game where you make your own post routes, crazy. Choosing their beer over their board game is probably the right choice in the meantime so as a reward we will tell you a bit about the beer.
The Thurn and Taxis Weissbier is an orange-yellow in appearance, with a wheat haze from the yeast and a long lasting off white head. The wheat is first to fill the nose followed by the fruits, banana the most obvious. The palate picks up light spice, including coriander as well as the wheat and banana notes again. It has a dry finish to round off a refreshing and easy drinking beer.
Richard Martin –
Quite a light weissbier with a fair bit of fizz – but not to excess. Not as cloudy as some of the bigger brands, but does retain some sweetness in the aftertaste and is easy to drink.
Charlie Johnson –
a nice wheat but not as flavoursome as some others, a little light but an easy drinking thirst quencher.
Arek –
Easy to drink, you can feel that ‘wheat’ very nicely.
Steven Robinson –
Great wheat beer not as smooth as some
Gavin H –
An excellent example of the type, smooth and gentle.
The Princes of Thurn und Taxis ran a hugely successful postal monopoly over much of Middle Europe from the late Middle Ages and this is just the sort of beer that a medieval Bavarian postie would relax and enjoy after an arduous round of delivering scrolls and parchments to the great and the good!
Kristin –
Easy drinking and refreshing, probably lacking some of the distinctive character of some of the better ones. Nevertheless a good example of a wheat beer

Another great hefeweizen. This one as has a hazy yellow hue with a typical expanding head. Very refreshing with tasty banana sweetness and some tang. Good fizz.
Paul C –
First from this brewery and for me, an excellent hefweizen.
It starts with a good head and has a sharp banana, wheaty and spicy taste.
Smooth and flavoursome, really moorish.
Eric Akrill –
A good head appears on first pouring and maintains well. First nose gives off banana and coriander notes. The taste backs this up with the addition of a clove-like spice flavour and hints of liquorice. The colour is a beautiful golden haze. This one goes down all too well and is very smooth with a sweetish after taste leaving one wanting more. A lovely beer and no mistake.
Liam Lewis –
A high quality wheat beer. Nice tasting notes of banana and coriander. Would definitely purchase again.
Chris Meechan –
Nice example of a Hefeweizen. Fruity, banana and coriander flavours.
