There is much to celebrate at this 2022 World Cup. For a start, it is the first World Cup to be held in the Arab world, as well as being the second to be held entirely in Asia. Another first, is the change in timing; due to the intense summer heat in Qatar, this tournament is being held in November and December and within a reduced timeframe of just 29 days.

It will be the last to involve 32 teams, as this will rise to 48 in the 2026 tournament – even more beer from around the world to discover and enjoy!

Alcohol and football have a long and entwined history and this tournament throws up some issues for those who attend any of the tournament in person. Qatar is a predominantly Muslim country; Muslims are forbidden to drink alcohol. That said, non-Muslims may be able to obtain a permit to drink beer in certain places. Football fans at the tournament will be unable to enjoy a beer before, during or after the game. This has given FIFA a headache, as Budweiser is a major sponsor and have been donating beer during the World Cup Championship since 1986.
