Other Information

Schlenkerla Helles is brewed with fine Bavarian aroma hops from the area around the city of Nürnberg. Its lagered in century old caves underneath the historic Schlenkerla brewery and maltings. Schlenkerla Helles is boiled in the same copper kettles and bottom fermented with the same yeast as the historic Schlenkerla Smokebeer. Its subtle smokiness without using smoke malt makes Helles Schlenkerla Lager a unique representative of the classic lager beer style Bavarian Helles.

Because we work from the barcode, if producers does not make us aware of a label change we often miss updates until we are contacted about it. Apologies in advance for this.

Please note that it isn’t always possible to provide a perfect looking bottle/label as this very much depends on the condition they are received in from our supplier.

We occasionally have items available in the shop that are not available to purchase online, usually because they are too fragile or large to post.

Unfortunately we do not offer gift packaging.

We currently use DHL, but we do also trial other couriers alongside from time to time.

We don’t currently ship outside the UK and Ireland but it may be something we offer in the future.

Unfortunately our carriers do not offer a time specific delivery service. We can send orders to arrive on a specific date but we would remind you that whilst 98% of deliveries arrive within the stated timeframe we cannot 100% guarantee the day. Couriers do often offer delivery windows on the day, with the option to rearrange if necessary.

If you are ordering as a gift we would ask you to take this into account when arranging delivery.

Please note that we are unable to offer weekend deliveries.

Our boxes come in 6s, 12s, and 24s. By no means are you required to order in those quantities, but it is worth bearing in mind when ordering. A full box also helps to reduce the small chance of damage, as empty compartments collapsing can be a cause of this.

Please check the tracking first, as they may provide an explanation but we welcome the opportunity to nip issues in the bud. Either call us on 01553 812000 or email our [email protected] to hear from our customer service team. Check out delivery details for more information.

If you have changed your mind for whatever reason, you can consult our returns information, or get in contact on 01553 812000.

  1. Allan

Tastes like a lager with the smokey smell of the rauchbier famous from this region. Good one to tick-off the list – not a session beer.

A good one to try before the Rauchbier – an entry level smoked beer even!

  2. Andy Nichols

German Helles is probably my favourite style of lager, with various different tastes of the style depending on the brewer. So I was interested in trying this for two reasons, with the apparent smokey taste of its sister Rauchbeir ( which is beautiful but totally different ), and the lower ABV of 4.3%. It didn’t disappoint as yes, there was a light smokey taste along the refreshing, crisp aromas of Helles. And also the fact it’s only 4.3%, I disagree with the previous review of it not being a session beer. I would quite happily chug on these all day long knowing it wouldn’t knock my socks off after 6+! Other Helles have more about them ( Augustiner being the king for me ), but definitely give these a go!

  3. Rob

Outstanding. A lovely crisp, refreshing Helles with a very subtle smoked twist. I wasn’t sure how this would work but after tasting it, its one I keep coming back to. Excellent.

  4. Catriona MacKechnie

This is such a unique beer, sweet and malty like a standard helles lager but smoked like the other Schlenkerla beers. If you want to try something unusual this is for you.

  5. Richard Young

Not quite the sum of its parts .

A Rauchbier from Schlenkerla meets a quality Helles should be a match made in heaven, but it doesn’t quite nail it. That said, I’ll certainly be back for more and can imagine getting a whole box for the summer. Great session beer too

  6. Milan Macurak

Basically Dortmunder beer with extra steps or in this case taste. Definitely very unique taste and another fantastic example of Deutsches bier kultur.

  7. Adam Randall

Distinctive smoky character, very unusual for a lager beer. Nice firm bitterness and good malty body. A classic in its own right and a suitable partner for its more famous (and smoky!) big brother.

  8. Paul Boniface

A smoky, light helles that provides a unique taste. Definitely worth trying.

  9. Michael Channon

A very easy drinking beer, with the enhancement of gentle smokiness which gives it more gravitas. It Is well worth trying this beer if you haven’t so far.

  10. Dean Griffiths

Pours light in colour with white fluffy head and very low carbonation.

The beer has quite a Smokey taste and leaves something of a bitter after taste. It’s not bad but not really to my liking.

  11. Paul Santilli

If you like the traditional Bavarian Helles beers, then try this for a different taste experience. Definitely similar in one respect with a nice balance of maltiness and hoppiness, but overlaid with a subtle hint of smokiness. If you have drunk the Schlenkerla Rauchbier then you will understand where this comes from. Very enjoyable beer.

  12. James Murray

Always enjoyed a Bavarian lager bier but this one is a little different has a heavy over tone of smokiness which , in my view, complete overhauls the lightness and smoothness a helles should deliver . Not a bad beer but slightly underwhelming if I’m honest by this one.

  13. Stephen Parker

Love the spicy, smokiness of this helles. Very different to most dortmunders. Give it a try for variation

  14. Popping Pils

The smokiness of this helles makes it unlike others I have tried, still light enough to be an enjoyable drink. Nice flavour if you’re after something different.

  15. Barrie Taylor

Gr8 taste, and perfect match with a good curry
