Dampfbier Dunkle Hefe Weisse is a dark wheat beer from Dampfbierbrauerei Zwiesel. Based in the German town of Zwiesel since 1889, Dampfbierbrauerei Zwiesel brews a range of traditional German lagers and wheat beers. They’re best known for their steam lager, or ‘Dampfbier’, which is where the name of the brewery comes from.
Dampfbier Dunkle Hefe Weisse is light in colour for a Dunkel beer, pouring a hazy amber colour. Rich aromas of wheat, yeast and roasted malts rise from the beer. The flavour of ripe banana mingles with cloves and coriander, with the addition of a little dark chocolate. A curious evolution of a classic German Hefeweisse, buy Dampfbier Dunkle Hefe Weisse to explore something a little different.

I generally like malty beers, so have tried several dark wheat beers. Most of them seems to not really ‘come together’. This one tastes great, the malty flavour combines lovely with the wheat beer characteristics. So good I actually rate it higher than the hefe-weissbier from the same brewery (which was nice but not outstanding). One to buy again

An excellent dunkelweizen. A great banana sweetness and malty undertone. There’s even a bit of cola there. Good fizz level and a decent head.

Sweet caramel malt aroma with light hint of hops. Cloudy caramel color with small head. Sweet caramel malt flavor. Low carbonation. Very nice, smooth beer.

A lovely dark wheat beer (although light for a dunkel) packed with ripe banana and cloves. A great summer beer.

As dunkelweizen beers go this one is right up there. The malt is not too strong and does not overpower the wheat flavours. Pours with a thick creamy head.

Accidentally ordered 2 of these but didn’t regret that at all – lots of depth of flavour here but able to to separate out the dunkel and weizen tones on the palate.
