Other Information

Samichlaus beer is brewed only once a year on December 6 and is aged for 10 months before bottling. Samichlaus is one of the rarest beer specialities in the world and at 14%, it is the strongest of its kind. Samichlaus may be aged in the bottle for many years to come, as older vintages become more complex with a creamy warming finish. This beer can be served with hardy robust dishes and desserts, particularly with chocolates, or as an after dinner drink by itself.

Beers of Europe offers an incredible range of Beers from all corners of the globe. We stock over 2,000 beers, ranging from the world’s oldest breweries to the worlds newest and the best in-between. In addition, we stock a wide variety of ciders, spirits, wine, homebrew, and glassware to create the perfect gift or occasion. If you want to know a bit more go to our About page.

No, we also have a shop based on the outskirts of King’s Lynn, Norfolk.

Travelling along the A10 between Downham Market and King’s Lynn, you will come to a small village called Setchey, turn next to J.S.W Car Sales on to Garage Lane and we are located approx. 100m down the lane on the right-hand side. Our address and opening hours can be found on the Contact Us page.

Yes, there are age restrictions in place. In the United Kingdom, the legal age to purchase alcohol is 18 years old. Beers of Europe strictly adheres to these regulations and by agreeing to our Terms and Conditions on checkout you confirm that you are over 18 years old. In store, we operate a Challenge 25 policy, which means that if you appear to be under 25 years old, you will be asked for identification to verify your age.

For some products supply can be inconsistent, whether that is at the brewery itself or how often we or its supplier imports it. For products that are out of stock, you can sign up to be notified of its return on the product page. From there, as soon as we book the stock in we send an email to you.

Bottles and labels can and do vary. This means that the images shown on our website may not be the same as current stock items. If the bottle or label is important please check before ordering. Please be aware that even if the label looks different, that product will be the same product if it has the same barcode. Because we work from the barcode, if producers does not make us aware of a label change we often miss updates until we are contacted about it. Apologies in advance for this.

Please note that it isn’t always possible to provide a perfect looking bottle/label as this very much depends on the condition they are received in from our supplier.

We occasionally have items available in the shop that are not available to purchase online, usually because they are too fragile or large to post.

We do not have a minimum purchase amount, but delivery charges may apply.

For orders between £25.01 and £60, delivery is charged at £5.99 (3 working days) or £7.99 (next working day).  Some areas are excluded and will incur extra charges. Please see postcodes listed in our Terms and Conditions.

Unfortunately we do not offer gift packaging.

We currently use DHL, but we do also trial other couriers alongside from time to time.

We don’t currently ship outside the UK and Ireland but it may be something we offer in the future.

Unfortunately our carriers do not offer a time specific delivery service. We can send orders to arrive on a specific date but we would remind you that whilst 98% of deliveries arrive within the stated timeframe we cannot 100% guarantee the day. Couriers do often offer delivery windows on the day, with the option to rearrange if necessary.

If you are ordering as a gift we would ask you to take this into account when arranging delivery.

Please note that we are unable to offer weekend deliveries.

Our boxes come in 6s, 12s, and 24s. By no means are you required to order in those quantities, but it is worth bearing in mind when ordering. A full box also helps to reduce the small chance of damage, as empty compartments collapsing can be a cause of this.

Please check the tracking first, as they may provide an explanation but we welcome the opportunity to nip issues in the bud. Either call us on 01553 812000 or email our [email protected] to hear from our customer service team. Check out delivery details for more information.

If you have changed your mind for whatever reason, you can consult our returns information, or get in contact on 01553 812000.

  1. John Sanders

Samichlaus beers are only brewed on one specific day of the year, December 6, St Nicholas’s Day, in Eggenberg Castle, Vorchdorf, Austria. Anyway, so much for the history lesson.

The beer a Doppelbock, at 14% abv, is a monster which matures with age. The longer you keep it, the better it becomes, although even very young, it is wonderful.

It pours crystal clear and deep amber to copper with an apology of a head which disappears instantly. The smell is caramel and malt, malt and more malt, and the taste follows suit, but there is so much more. Figs, plums, raisins – the type of fruit which found its way into traditional Christmas puddings. Slosh it around your mouth and savour every last second this warming masterpiece lingers on the palate like a fine whisky.

  2. David Hanson

Liquid Christmas, quite sweet but so much going on, figs, toffee candle smoke even. Bang!

  3. Kristin

This beer is just full of flavour and surprisingly doesn’t taste strong despite the 14%. The first flavour I noticed was licorice. It does taste like liquid Christmas!

  4. Gareth Roberts

A high abv beer that doesnt have the taste of alcohol that main stream weaker lagers have., its got a chocolate and beef gravy taste.

  5. Peter B. J. Gill

Quite simply the very best beer in the world for the discerning beer drinker. It has a complex mix of flavours, though don’t waste your time trying to identify them – just enjoy the experience; the absence of a head is a bonus! It is a beer that should be sipped rather than downed in one go. Like a fine port, it can accompany a special dinner, but it equally good (if not better!) on its own. I prefer it chilled, but no so cold as to overwhelm the flavours. One bottle is never enough, though I’ve not gone beyond three in one sitting! Wonderful!!!

  6. Justin Hoffmann

At 14% , it’s naturally very sweet and syrupy but a lovely beer to drink. I’d recommend treating this in the same way as a dessert wine and sipping away at this at the end of a good meal.

  7. Mark Charrington

Pours a clear chestnut amber the small tan head quickly died It smells boozy of course, odours of Topic bar rum and maple syrup follow The taste is like a Muscat grape liqueur, with toasted woody barley. This has a lovely silky oily finish, what an extraordinary beer even when only a year old.

  8. Janine Carpenter

Amazingly quick delivery! My boys started drinking this many years ago and now it is their tipple of choice for Christmas and special occasions. It accompanied my daughters wedding and now we have a box to wet our soon to be grandson’s head. We love our Sami-Claus and always get it from beers of Europe as we know we will get the quality and personal touch every time. Thank you guys. We will see you just before Christmas!

  9. Doctor D Price

Absolutely delicious super strong beer and not just for Christmas. A bit too popular with friends and family unfortunately!

  10. B D Kelly

Just tried my first bottle of this beer and it has to be one of the best I’ve ever had. A wonderful colour and great taste and smell. Despite being a hefty 14% it’s very easy to drink – a bit too easy perhaps! A classic Christmas drink. Will definitely be ordering more.

  11. Alwyn Brice

Nothing to say about the beer – I’ve been buying it for over 25 years, and it’s the closest thing to nectar you’ll find on planet Earth. Hats off to Beers of Europe, though: DHL lost (?) my initial purchase but this was speedily replaced by the company in time for Christmas. 10/10!

  12. Mike Porter

If port was a beer. Ideal for SIPPING by the fire.

  13. Jimmy

I don’t wax lyrical…this beer is the BEST. Bar none. Sublime.

  14. Xavier Crepin

Strong beer to drink like a Porto or dessert wine, but a bit too sweet for me

  15. Elle M

Absolutely delicious and easily drinkable despite the ABV
