This bourbon whiskey is distilled using a high percentage of rye. It was named by Colonel R.B Hayden, whose granddad Basil Hayden began this family recipe and made a name for himself by selling the whiskey. It was passed down through his son till the third generation distiller; Colonel Hayden began to market the whiskey as “Old Grand Dad” in tribute to the gent behind the unique taste.
The high rye content provides a spicy kick on the palate, certainly not for the faint-hearted, and the bourbon whiskey is dull amber in colour. This traditional spirit is full bodied and has notes of pecan pie, marmalade and toffee on the nose with a rich taste showcasing tangy fruit and pie flavours. Old Grand Dad has a lengthy broad finish and its heritage is passed from the distiller to the consumer to enjoy. This is an old style whiskey that has many admirers across the world.
