Saugatuck’s Blueberry Maple Stout is a sweet malt stout with a bold and unique twist. Brewed with Goldings and Cascade hops and give different malts including Caramel 90 and Black Prinz, it pours black with a light tan head. The nose is intense and long lasting with milk, sweet malts, chocolate and, of course, blueberries. This follows through to the flavour which is medium sweet and lightly bitter with blueberry notes in the finish. Saugatuck describe their Blueberry Maple Stout as drinking a glass full of blueberry pancakes smothered in maple syrup – why not decide for yourself?

This is certainly a novelty stout but it works! The overriding flavour is maple but there is definitely blueberry there. There is also roasted, coffee tastes. Sweet but not sickly sweet. Very nice and definitely worth a punt.

Strong Maple flavours with hints of blueberry. Sweet tasting.

Didn’t like this one at all, just weird.
Chris Meechan –
The maple is right on the nose followed by hints of sweet blueberry. Solid if not spectacular.

If i could give 3 and a half stars i would. I definitely liked, but didn’t love it. I do like a sweet stout but i think the hint of blueberry just didn’t work for me. It’s definitely in there but i think i’d have preferred it if were just maple syrup. Does exactly what it says on the, er, bottle… Good weight to it though and nice and unctuous. As another reviewer mentioned, sweet but not sickly sweet.

Interesting taste, an overriding maple flavour which is quite nice. One for the strange taste box.

Strong maple and roast flavours with slight blueberry. Not sweet. Flavours, particularly the blueberry improves when not overly chilled. I’ve found this with many flavoured stouts. Don’t drink too cold!

Getting more maple than blueberry, a little bit sweet and very tasty. A nice dessert beer.
