When Bas and Hildegard were married, they did not serve wine at their celebration, they served a delicious Special Ale of 11.5% ABV. The, in the meantime legendary, Urthel Samaranth. A special strong amber-coloured beer brewed by Hildegard to commemorate the occasion.
Urthel Samaranth 12 Quadrium Ale was such a hit that it has been in the selection ever since. Dusky, light brown in colour with a slightly off-white foam. In the nose, it’s sweet and faintly spicy with notes of dried fruit, nuts, chocolate and marzipan.
On the palate, it’s big and bold, massively malty and slightly warming from the alcohol. It is long and shockingly dry in the finish. Urthel Samaranth 12 is a traditionally top fermented and bottle conditioned strong amber ale. It’s the taste of happiness…

We discovered this one in Bruges last year. Rich, very strong. One for a cold winter’s evening. Great to be able to get it here.

This masterpiece pours a vivid chestnut brown which seems to advertise the warmth held within. The head collapses quickly, leaving a thin layer of bubbles – a feature which is quite common in ‘big’ beers. The smell is fairly subdued – a little malt, a little fruit – but the taste smacks you right between the eyes. Full-blown fruity boozy Christmas pudding in a glass, and the finish goes on forever. Just magnificent.

Pours ruby brown with a small fine head Aromas of cider apples marmalade walnut booziness Tastes of toffee apples & dried sugary fruit soaked in peppery orange liqueur. This could easily be mistaken for a sherry in a blind tasting if there was no head. A lovely beer to finish an evening.

Another crazily boozy one, too much to rate it higher for me (and I’m a big fan of really heavy beers!)
