Gulden Draak Brewmaster 330ml is a Belgian tripel ale from Brouwerij Van Steenberge. Gulden Draak translates into English as ‘Golden Dragon’, and is inspired by the golden dragon on the top of the Ghent belfry. Gulden Draak Brewmaster takes Gulden Draak Classic, and ages the beer in wooden whisky barrels for a rich, oaky beer.
Gulden Draak Brewmaster pours an amber colour, offering up oaky, whisky aromas from the barrel ageing. The flavour is soft, with sweet malt and vanilla notes. Buy Gulden Draak Brewmaster for a multi-award winning, strong Belgian ale.

First time I’ve sampled this particular beer. It is rich in armoma and flavour and has a bit of a kick to it at 10.5%!

Pours orange good with a white head Aroma of fresh grapes tropical fruit then fresh bread Tastes like Nice biscuits apricot rhubarb and woody apples. As it warms a smooth subtle whisky flavour emerges surprisingly it hides the ABV well

A rich, dark brew that reminded me of rich fruit cake but without the sweet highlights. It certainly had depth, a rich mouthfeel and for me, a greater presence in the mouth that the standard Gulden Draak brew.
Despite gentle cooling, it wasn’t cold and made me wonder what difference in flavour profile would emerge if it was imbibed at room temperature ?
For my English palate, I’m not sure it worked – for me – as an aperitif before my tea ( an Italian ready meal from M&S) but I could certainly see it as a rich glassful with a cheeseboard or a very chocolate and cream heavy dessert. I suppose I have answered my own question there.
Definitely one to try. Even if you’re not into deep, dark brews it is an adventure in a glass that I suggest you must taste.

The pride of Ghent comes up trumps again with a truly stunning beer. Subtle flavours of fruit with a hint of whisky, well balanced and with a pleasantly warming strength.

A masterful brew from the brewmasters – so much going on in a fantastic beer like this but it really all pulls together.
