This Trappist beer possesses a beautiful coppery colour that makes it particularly attractive. Topped with a creamy head, it gives off a slight fruity apricot smell from the fermentation. The aroma felt in the mouth is a balance confirming the fruit nuances revealed to the sense of smell.
This traditional Belgian beer is best savoured at cellar temperature (10 – 12°C).

This beer has subtle wheat and malt flavours. I did find it enjoyable but maybe felt that the flavours can be bolder. Not too carbonated and smooth. 3.25/5 for me.

Maybe I’m being too sentimental about Chimay as it was my first Belgian Beer experience, but I do find the Red to be particularly enjoyable. It’s crisp, flavourful and has just the right amount of that musty Abbey-style taste. It’s a classic.

Superb beer. Very much like a good Dunkel for me, good malty flavour and plenty of booze to remind you it’s a 7% beer.

Strong rich easy to drink the original chimay brew available before the blue .Although not as stronge as the blue its nevertheless has the same richness of taste. Highly recommended
My particular favourite is a chimay red followed by a blue

lacks complexity, but nevertheless pleasant drinking

Perfectly drinkable, pleasant Belgian beer, would give it 4.5 if I could, but there are better available on this site
Philip Ensor –
Chimay red is my favourite beer bar none. The alcohol kick at 7% is pretty potent so it needs to be treated respectfully. The Belgian brown beer style is – for me – a good blend of wheat beer and old school mild but sweeter and more powerful. I’m no pro when it comes to describing beers so I’ll go no further than that. Gorgeous.

I think Chimay Red is one of my fav beers in the 7-8% category. Strong and rich in taste, always a pleasure to drink.

My least favourite of the Chimay beers. Sweet, rich and strong but there isn’t much else going on.

Lovely belgium beer, settles nicely on the tongue, sweet malty after taste and strong enough to make you smile!

Tasting small Belgium beers is a great experience and this didn’t disappoint. Slighty fruity flavour and lovely brownish red colour.

I’ve had this beer before and was looking forward to it but it ultimately disappointed. A 330ml bottle pours a brown beer with a red tinge and complementary head. The beer just seemed lacking but difficult to say exactly why. I have another bottle in the same box and will sample this very soon.
Bernard Hawcroft –
Rich and full flavoured, the epitome of an Abbey beer. Worth the money

Nice copper colour and creamy head. Malty and sweet too, with an underlying fruitiness. Would buy again.

Fruit, malt, not much complexity – not a lot of the rich dark fruit/caramel/bitter/spice flavours I would expect with the best strong ales or dubbels. Quite nice for light drinking, but Chimay Blue is more substantial.
