Penninger Blutwurz is a traditional German liqueur, made from the root of the Blutwurz, or ‘Bloodroot’ plant. The Blutwurz plant gets its name from the dark red liquid that leaks from the plant’s roots when cut. Penninger Distillery has been in business for over 100 years, now under the fourth generation of Penninger stewardship.
What does Penninger Blutwurz taste like? The Blutwurz root is macerated and steeped in alcohol, with herbs, to form a strong, 50% ABV liqueur with a gentle herbal, zesty flavour. Buy Penninger Blutwurz beautifully presented in an earthenware bottle preserving Bavarian tradition. Traditionally enjoyed neat as an aperitif or digestif, this German liqueur is also versatile as a cocktail ingredient.
