Hello, please introduce yourself   I’m Kate Clark and I’m the Social Media Manager for Beers of Europe.

What does your role entail?   I am in charge of running the social media accounts for Beers of Europe. I share content and news and chat with our customers and followers across our social networks. I work with several people in the YouTube community who review for us and I also work alongside Dom to produce content for our website.

How did you get into this line of work?   I met my husband, who is one of the directors, back in 2000 which is when the shop was first started. Right from the start, all of the family have helped out in the shop so I would help out on a sporadic basis with anything from stacking shelves to picking and packing orders, particularly in the run up to Christmas. In 2012, having set up and run the social media accounts for a couple of years, the opportunity came up for me to work full time. At the time I was in a job I no longer enjoyed (I was a practice manager for a financial advisers, if you’re interested) so I snapped up the opportunity and here I am, 4 years later.

What was your first drink and where were you when you had it?   I’m not certain if it was my first drink but I do remember being very young and having a sip of my Mum’s rum and coke at a Christmas party (thanks Mum!).

What drink can you no longer face having had one too many?   Without a doubt its Malibu, even the smell of it makes me feel queasy.  It stems back to my teens and several nights of getting far too drunk on it.

What is your favourite style of beer?   I must admit that I’m not that adventurous when it comes to beer. I usually choose a German lager or pilsner as I’ve not had one that I haven’t liked.

What is your favourite beer, wine or spirit?   I don’t have a favourite beer. Yes, I know that’s terrible working in a beer shop!
I have young children so I don’t drink that much (children and hangovers aren’t a good combination, trust me) but I do like a G&T. At the moment I have a bottle of spiced orange gin on the go. I like to try more of the liqueurs when I can, the sweeter the better – Frangelico is a firm favourite.

What is the silliest thing you’ve done whilst drunk?   There’s a few I can think of, mostly from my late teens/early twenties when I would drink more than I could handle and generally make an idiot of myself. Many a night I would be first on the dance floor and last one off and I’m happy to admit that I am lacking in coordination so I dread to think what I looked like.

What is the best part of your job?   The relaxed working environment. I worked in both the legal and financial sectors for many years in administration roles, both working environments were full of deadlines and stress.

You are stuck on a desert island, what three things are you taking with you?   My children and never-ending supplies of coffee and books. Actually, somewhat of an after thought, I should probably say my children and husband!
