Other Information

Established in 1758, Samuel Smith is Yorkshire’s oldest brewery. They brew a wide range of high quality beers made solely from authentic, natural ingredients. They still use stone Yorkshire squares to ferment their ales and stouts (with the exception of Sovereign and Extra Stout) as well as the same yeast strain used since the 1800s. Samuel Smiths Imperial Stout is a distinctive type of beer was originally brewed to withstand the abuses of shipping in foul weather to Imperial Russia. It was a favourite of Russian nobility whose taste for the finest food and drink was world famous. Samuel Smiths Imperial Stout is a rich flavourful brew which is deep chocolate in colour with a roasted barley nose and flavour that is a complexity of malt, hops, alcohol and yeast.

Bottles and labels can and do vary. This means that the images shown on our website may not be the same as current stock items. If the bottle or label is important please check before ordering. Please be aware that even if the label looks different, that product will be the same product if it has the same barcode. Because we work from the barcode, if producers does not make us aware of a label change we often miss updates until we are contacted about it. Apologies in advance for this.

Please note that it isn’t always possible to provide a perfect looking bottle/label as this very much depends on the condition they are received in from our supplier.

We occasionally have items available in the shop that are not available to purchase online, usually because they are too fragile or large to post.

Unfortunately we do not offer gift packaging.

We currently use DHL, but we do also trial other couriers alongside from time to time.

We don’t currently ship outside the UK and Ireland but it may be something we offer in the future.

Unfortunately our carriers do not offer a time specific delivery service. We can send orders to arrive on a specific date but we would remind you that whilst 98% of deliveries arrive within the stated timeframe we cannot 100% guarantee the day. Couriers do often offer delivery windows on the day, with the option to rearrange if necessary.

If you are ordering as a gift we would ask you to take this into account when arranging delivery.

Please note that we are unable to offer weekend deliveries.

Our boxes come in 6s, 12s, and 24s. By no means are you required to order in those quantities, but it is worth bearing in mind when ordering. A full box also helps to reduce the small chance of damage, as empty compartments collapsing can be a cause of this.

Please check the tracking first, as they may provide an explanation but we welcome the opportunity to nip issues in the bud. Either call us on 01553 812000 or email our [email protected] to hear from our customer service team. Check out delivery details for more information.

If you have changed your mind for whatever reason, you can consult our returns information, or get in contact on 01553 812000.

  1. Stujago

To me, this Imperial stout is very similar to a German doppelbock. It has roasted dark fruit flavours that are rich but not too sweet. As good as the best doppelbock I’ve tried. Very smooth.

  2. lee campling

If your looking for a smooth and full flavoured stout thats rich in taste but not over powering you won’t find a much better one than this.

  3. David Ryland

    Excellent. Loved this beer.
    Speedy delivery.

  4. Gareth Roberts

A bit thick and strong, a few would repeat on me later

  5. Alexey Nekhaenko

Good balance but I’d like an imperial stout to be thicker – still worth having tho

  6. Julian Boniface

Not as strong as some Imperial Stouts, but the flavour is well up there.

  7. David Gouldson

Roasted malt aroma and flavour with flavours of chocolate. Very enjoyable stout.

  8. Chris Meechan

A big flavoursome stout heavy on coffee with hints of raisin and a burnt fruity finish. Not as high in abv as some imperial stouts so is very drinkable.

  9. Steve Hawkins

Rich, biscuity aroma. A hint of grape in there too. When sipped, you get a lovely velvety kick of caramel, as well as a liquorice twist. The finish is bold and lingering.

  10. Chris H

A dark chocolate coloured stout. Coffee notes that are pleasingly subtle. This has an ABV with enough heft to make you want more whilst allowing you the capability to do so.

  11. Jonathan Giles

    Nice smooth strong stout.

  12. Ian Wilson

A fine imperial stout.full of liquorice and coffee. definitely will buy again

  13. Peter

this is another cracking beer from a good brewery

  14. ISC

Pours jet black with creamy beige head. Coffee predominates over chocolate..
Bittersweet aftertaste. Very reasonable price for an Imperial Stout, although lower abv than most.

  15. Julie Jones

My husband loves this. His usual stout was Guinness but this has taken preference. He describes it as smooth and sweet-ish!

  16. Ryan Powell

Simply stunning! The BEST stout on the market bar none!

  17. Christopher Eio

I really enjoyed this one. A great imperial stout, definitely one on the must drink list.

  18. David Hanson

Fine stuff, drinks easily, smooth, fruit, coffee & liquorice

  19. Elle M

A very light imperial and easy to drink

  20. Matthew W

Pours black, small beige head, leaves nice top, some retention.
Aroma of toffee, licorice, alcohol, blackberries, figs, roasted malt background, some cocoa.
Taste is caramel, licorice, figs, dark chocolate, moderate bitter coffee finish, tingle of spice.
    Creamy mouthfeel, fine carbonation.
    Superb.

  21. Tobias Gill

A little less full on than some imperial stouts, but still delicious and worth buying.

  22. Neil Ward

I enjoyed this Impy Stout and would drink it again. In my opinion it didn’t have much to make it stand out from the crowd, hence 3 stars.

  23. Alan Sinclair

Very nice stout but at 7%, too strong for a session. Nice for the last drink of the day

  24. Graham Horne

Very much enjoyed it, will get it again in the future
