Don’t be afraid of the dark – this delicious dark mild has established itself a s firm favourite. At 4.9% ABV it is a little bit stinger than most milds but that allows it to pack a great deal of flavour.
It has a subtle blackcurrant aroma, full malty body with a sweet finish. The mild uses traditional UK hops; Pilgrim and Progress as well as a sprinkling of the more modern Cascade hop.
Brewed using Maris Otter barley, with colour and flavour from chocolate and crystal malts. What’s in a name? – a name from the Dark Ages – French in origin; noble and distinguished.

Never come across this before so I thought I’d give it a go. Strong for a mild and full bodied with good malt flavour and a hint of fruit. Very much enjoyed this Norfolk brew and I’ve still got a few left. When pubs are open again I wouldn’t mind trying it on draught. Would certainly buy again.

Outstanding dark mild. Stronger than you expect from this style but it carries it off well with good dark malt and dried fruit flavours. Definitely added to me buy again list.

Very agreeable mild – dark brown, roasty and fruity flavours, not overly sweet, nice dryness in the finish – in some respects more like a brown ale. Quite quaffable for the ABV.
Ian Wilson –
A very nice malty, fruity dark mild with a sweet finish

Initially this had quite a unique musty taste but it evolves in to more of a malty, smokey beer. Very nice, although reasonably fizzy. A stronger flavour than other dark milds I’ve tried.

I liked this a lot – a good solid stout with an interesting sweet undertone that I would describe as licoricey, but you don’t come away feeling like you’ve had too much sweetness afterwards like with some beers. Nice!

I absolutely love this mild ale.. Probably the best mild on the market.

A little lighter than my usual milds but what a taste, full of flavour, stronger taste a little sting in the tale. A little more carbonation than I expected, which settles, great head white in colour and a good body.
Took a few sips to get into the swing of things but a good mild.
