Gulden Draak Imperial Stout is an imperial stout from Belgian brewer, Brouwerij Van Steenberge. As the rather imposing bottle suggests, this is a seriously strong, flavourful beer. The name ‘Imperial Stout’ comes from a particularly strong stout that was produced in England and shipped to the Imperial court of Russia back in the 1800s. This regal beer is brewed with double, or even triple, the malts and hops, to produce a rich, complex flavour and strong alcohol content – generally around 10-12% ABV.
Gulden Draak Imperial Stout pours a deep black colour, offering up aromas of cherries, dried fruit and chocolate. The flavour is rich and fruity, with chocolate, roasted malt and brown sugar, alongside a hint of clove spice. Rich ,strong and dark with nice creamy head. Sweet and malty.

Very nice beer. Tastes different to other imperial stouts I’ve tried. More like a very smooth quadrupel to me. There is sweetness but it’s not overpowering. More a brown sugar flavour with some malty bitterness.

Appears ruby tinted ebony with a coffee head Aromas are vinous then coffee and chocolate My palate finds roasty molasses fruity brandy liqueur chocs, Ends minimally dry. One for a special sipping occasion more Quad than Imperial Stout

Delicious, but you do need to like them sweet. Full of rich, roasty, chocolate flavours and raisiny fruitiness. Drinks way below its ABV – it’s warming but not at all spirity, which you’d expect at this strength. Good one for a nightcap.

Very good beer sweet with smooth bitter finish, ideal taste for me, however it could be a tad too sweet for some people, but still worth a try
David Hanson –
Too sweet for me. Mutes all of the other flavours – chocolate, coffee & malt. Doesn’t taste as strong as it is.

This is a proper old-school roasty impy! Smooth and creamy and doesn’t taste anything like 12% ABV.

In 55 years of beer drinking, this is one of the most complex beers I’ve tasted. Everything seems to be included. I tasted coffee, dark chocolate black cherries and liquorice at least. Superb winter warmer.
