Elgoods is a family owned brewery housed in the North Brink Brewery in the heart of the fens. The Brewery was established in 1795 and was one of the first classic Georgian breweries to be built outside of London.
Elgoods Black Dog is a traditional dark mild. Well balanced with a full roast flavour. The use of Crystal malt and Roast Barley give a deep underlying characteristic flavour, which is balanced with Fuggles hops as the sole variety.
One of our fantastic range of Halloween Beers.

The description says ” distinctive” its definitely that and for me at least not in a pleasant way, oddly medicinal tasting to me and bad enough to not even finish ( very unusual)
needless to say wont be putting my basket again.
Ba Faiers –
A pleasant ‘drinking’ mild that slips down too easily!

Initially I didn’t like the taste but it’s a grower! Almost like a liquid liquorice. As I drank a nice malty nuttiness came through. Lots of flavour for it’s ABV. Smooth.
Gareth Roberts –
Average a bit of metallic taste.
Ian Wilson –
A pleasant mild, slips down and it’s a grower

Very nice, it got nicer the more I drank it. It’s one where you have to make sure you don’t drink it too cold otherwise you won’t get the full flavour (but then I suppose that’s the same for ales generally). There is a roastyness to it which was just right for me, not too much but you could taste it. It grew on me and I started to really like it.

Pours a dark brown with small off-white head with ok retention.
Aroma of sweet caramel malts, brown sugar, chocolate, raisins, blackcurrant. Very pleasant.
Taste has a dry roastiness to the malts, cola, light chocolate, raisins, nice berry fruity tang
Good smooth body for the strength, fine carbonation.
Very nice. I wish more breweries did a mild, its a great style if you’re in the mood for a lighter beer.

Pours a nutty dark brown, sweet in aroma and taste. A little weak in body but a wonderful full mild taste.
One I would buy again although there are more full bodied milds out there, which have a better texture and feel rounder on the palate.

A proper English mild from a wonderful brewery in Wisbech. Very pleasant aroma and kept it’s head all the way down. Smooth body, good roast barley flavour and just a hint of Fuggles.

Lovely, refreshing, easy drinking, proper old fashioned dark mild. One of my favourite session cask ales, but very hard to find if you don’t live in Cambridgeshire. Luckily the bottle is almost as good. I think I detect a very faint sour/bretty note, which makes it even more delicious.

Only gave this one 3 stars as i found it rather sparkly, tasted nutty and was very pleasant, unfortunately when poured into the glass, it failed to produce a head which was disappointing.
Usually have bottles in the fridge for around 4 or 5 days so its nice and cold, which was just right for this one.
