In today’s post we are chatting to Chris Williams from Williams Bros Brewery.

Who are you/what do you do?   I am Chris Williams, second generation Williams Brother. Raised in a brewery I have helped out wherever I could from as long as I can remember, from brewery work to PR, sales and events.

What do you think makes a great beer?   Right time, right place really makes a great beer. I love all sorts of beer, it’s all about picking the best beer available for the moment.

Bottled or canned beer?   I like both… I’d rather have it on draft anyway; keg or cask, depends on the beer.

If you have to pick, which would be your top three beers in the whole world?   It’s a hard one, so I’ll make it my 3 most memorable in the past 6 months. In no particular order:
SOUR – Cascade – Black Cap Raspberry
HOPS – Hoof Hearted – Everybody Wants Some “Nelson Sauvin”
DARK – Omnipollo & Buxton – Yellow Belly Sundae

What is the best part of your job?   Getting to enjoy & share our beer with great people. Whether it’s sharing tales with fellow brewers and fans or spending some down time with our team, it’s all about great beers, great people and great moments.

You are stuck on a desert island, what three things are you taking with you?   Friends, food and beer!

What was the inspiration for starting the brewery?   It was in the 80’s when a lady of Gaelic descent brought in a recipe for “Leanne Fraoch” (heather ale) into our family owned homebrew shop in Partick, Glasgow. The use of botanics and the legacy of the beer in Scotland inspired my father (Bruce) to revive it. Shortly after the first commercial batches he asked his brother (Scott) if he was interested in getting involved and setting up a brewery… they did and the rest is history.

How long have you been brewing at Williams Bros?   We are now in our 26th year brewing Fraoch, however we formed the more contemporary and varied portfolio as “Williams Bros” in our current brewhouse for 11 years now.

Out of all the beers you brew, which is your favourite? Why is that?   Caesar Augustus. It is a beer that suits almost any moment… It makes a great shower beer too!

Thank you to Chris and Williams Bros Brewery for taking the time to talk to us.
