Johnnie Walker Double Black, which was released in 2011, was designed by Master Blender Jim Beveridge as a darker and smokier version of the well-known whisky Johnnie Walker Black Label. This whisky is matured using heavily charred casks and a bigger proportion of West Coast and Island whiskies, which helped increase flavours to a higher intensity.
The result of the distilling of Johnnie Walker Double Black is a brilliant rich, toasty, smoky and malty cored whisky. Its finish is at the right level and gives us a hint of malt, black pepper and even boiled sweets.
This excellent taste has led Johnnie Walker Double Black to win many awards, one of which was gold at the International Spirits Challenge followed by a double gold medal at the San Francisco World Spirits Competition in 2015.
Our recommendation is for it to be served with a mixer or with a dash of water which helps release the smoky flavours.
