Catching Up With Whatahoot Distillery!

Whatahoot Distillery

It’s been a busy year for WhataHoot – albeit not exactly the one they had planned, given the unprecedented lockdown due to Coronavirus.

Whatahoot Mayors Awards

Nevertheless, the year started well, as they were delighted to be honored with the award for Innovation at the King’s Lynn Mayor’s Business Awards. The prestigious awards acknowledge outstanding businesses and recognise the contribution businesses in the region are making to the west Norfolk economy, so were thrilled to join other finalists from across West Norfolk at the glittering awards ceremony which was hosted at The Corn Exchange in King’s Lynn.

However, less than two weeks later the country had gone into lockdown and life at WhataHoot changed dramatically. Along with panic buying and a surge on the demand for loo paper, of all things, there was also a national shortage of hand sanitizer, which led to a number of local care homes and councils enquiring if they could turn their alcohol into hand sanitizer.

Whatahoot Hand Sanitser

Although they had never made hand sanitizer before, they followed the World Health Organisation formula to create an 80% solution and successfully managed to alter the production process to help meet the country’s increased demand for hand sanitizer.

The demand was incredible and they have distributed thousands of bottles across Norfolk and were pleased to be in a position where something they made helped others in these challenging and unprecedented times.

Whatahoot New Distillery

Meantime, however, the plans for a new distillery continued. Although work stopped for a few weeks, as life has slowly begun to take on a new normal, builders returned, safely, to the building in King Street, which is gradually being transformed into a new Distillery & Gin School!

Excited to see these dreams take shape, Whatahoot have recently opened and a new era for WhataHoot has begun. The new premises will not only mean they will have a vastly increased capacity for production, but will be able to offer gin tours and make your own gin experiences, and the distillery will also be available for private hire.
