Fantastic Gifts Ideas For Father’s Day

Father’s Day is that special time for us to honour all of those male role models in our lives. Every third Sunday in June, we have the opportunity to hit pause and celebrate the good guys who are always there for us. Whilst Mother’s Day has quite a long history, Father’s Day is a more modern addition to our calendar, with its roots in America. The first Father’s Day is said to have taken place in 1908, following the death of 362 men in a mining accident in West Virginia. In a special service, to honour both the living and dead, the parishioners commemorated all that fathers do for us. From there, the notion of Father’s Day grew until it emerged in the UK sometime after the end of World War II.

Father’s Day Beer Gifts
Here are some of our top Fathers Day Beer recommendations for the guys that love their beer. We’ve got something for the full bodied porter enthusiast, both from British breweries, and a selection of superstars from the continent.

Proud Porters

Elgoods Plum Porter is a rich, dark and sweet ruby port with plum overtones. Elgoods is a family owned brewery housed in the North Brink Brewery in the heart of the fens.  The Brewery was established in 1795 and was one of the first classic Georgian breweries to be built outside of London.

This exquisitely strong-willed, full-bodied dark porter, Exmoor Beast, was inspired by the fireside tales of wild cats roaming the moors of Exmoor. It has lush rich aromas of toffee, and treacle, whilst mocha coffee, vinous fruit and chocolate swirl above the glass. It is a complex and heady brew, with a strength that means this is a beer to be respected! You might like it slightly chilled: a beer drinker’s version of an Irish coffee. Try it with ice cream, where the vanilla flavours would work well with the bittersweet richness of the porter.

Euro Stars

Peroni Red is an Italian classic, which has been produced there since 1846, always following the original recipe and using the very best ingredients. It is brewed to suit the Italian palate with low, but present fruity and floral notes, complementing the bitterness and sweetness, followed by a clean after taste. Peroni Red is a refreshing and smooth lager, that has fans all over the world; no longer appealing to just an Italian palate!

From Italy, we hop across the continent to Belgium and the Orval Trappist Brewery, located within the confines of the Abbey. The Brewery was created in 1931 to finance the enormous reconstruction works of Orval. It has hired lay workers from the outset, including the master brewer, Pappenheimer, who invented the recipe. Orval
has an intensely aromatic and dry character. Between the first and second fermentations, there is also an additional dry-hopping process. Through this the beer acquires its pronounced hoppy aroma and extra dry taste. This is described as a genuine Trappist beer because the product is manufactured in a Trappist abbey, the monastic community are directly involved in the management of the brewery and the revenue from sales is essentially used for charity. This is the perfect beer for the ethically minded dad.

Samichlaus Classic Bier is brewed only once a year on December 6 and is aged for 10 months before bottling. Samichlaus is one of the rarest beer specialities in the world and at 14%ABV, it is the strongest of its kind. Samichlaus may be aged in the bottle for many years to come, as older vintages become more complex with a creamy warming finish. This beer can be served with hardy robust dishes and desserts, particularly with chocolates, or as an after dinner drink by itself.

Postcards from America

Ole Smoky Moonshine Blackberry is produced by America’s leading distiller of premium moonshine and was the first federally licensed distiller in the history of East Tennessee. The company’s roots can be traced back over one hundred years to the early settlers of the Smoky Mountains. This is moonshine made with authenticity and enduring pride from the people of the Appalachians. The addition of blackberries creates a smooth, yet spirited flavour with a kick, to keep things interesting.

Wild Turkey Bourbon 101 is so-called because it’s sold at 101 proof (50.5% ABV). The bourbon won double gold at the San Francisco World Spirits Competition and is the best-selling premium bourbon in the USA. The high rye content gives Wild Turkey Bourbon 101 a spicy character. This bourbon offers up a bouquet of sweet toffee, vanilla and oak. The palate is full-bodied, with pepper-spice, caramel and woody notes.

Go Organic

Located on the banks of the picturesque Loch Lomond, the Loch Lomond Distillery makes this whisky with 100% organic malted barley and their own grain whisky. Loch Lomond 12 Year Old Organic Whisky is a blended malt whisky, pouring a golden colour, with aromas of apricot and apple, with grassy hints. The first sip reveals vanilla, mango and hints of cocoa. Delight your dad with this fruity, organic whisky with a delicate flavour.

Indian Adventure

For a whisky experience that is a break from the norm, try Paul John Brilliance, an Indian whisky crafted by John Distilleries; a collection of own-brand distilleries located across India. The company uses six-row barley from the Goan foothills of the Himalayas, water from pure, underground and rain-fed sources, Indian copper pot-stills and carefully selected American white oak barrels for maturation. Paul John Brilliance is a non-chill filtered, non-peated, Indian Single Malt whisky with 46% ABV. On the nose, the drink has a sweet, Demerara bouquet with a hint of cinnamon, dash of honey and faint spices. It’s a mix of sweet and spice on the palate with a honey-like smoothness and hint of cocoa. Paul John Brilliance whisky has a relaxed finish, with a hint of mild spices and deep intense vanilla.

Football Fan Heaven

The perfect gift for football fans, Polish family distillery Debowa present this beautifully crafted football-shaped cup, filled with vodka. Debowa Vodka Football Cup is not only visually appealing, the football also serves to insulate the vodka bottle inside, keeping it cooler for up to five times longer than a normal bottle!  Simply remove the ball from the cup and place in the fridge or freezer to chill. Once you’re ready to drink, place it back on the cup and serve. Buy Debowa Vodka Football Cup as a great gift for a football lover in your life, with the added benefit of keeping the vodka chilled throughout the evening!
