Alcohol has always been popular over the Christmas period but what are the traditional drinks that you can make at home? Well here’s a few that we have selected for you to try at home.

Punch

Punch is known the world around, with one of the most popular being rum punch which is perfect for heating and making a hot rum punch. However, for this recipe we are going to recommend vodka as we are going for a chilled punch to enjoy when you are warm and cosy in front of the fire or in a crowded room at a Christmas party.

There is nothing to worry about with this drink as it easy to make and only take about 5 minutes and serves about 4 people. So adjust the measures based on the amount of people you have to provide for.

Ingredients:

2 Glasses of cranberry juice
500ml of lemonade
500ml Litre of ginger ale
The juice from 1 whole lemons
340ml of vodka
Sliced orange
Ice (depending on size of the bowl and how much you want)

This is where it gets really easy:

Put ice into a large bowl
Pour all ingredients apart from the orange slices into the bowl and mix together
When you can clearly see that it is well mixed, add orange to finish

And there you have it, a tasty festive punch.

Hot Toddy

Hot Toddy might be one drink that you might not have heard of but it is a traditional hot Christmas drink, which is usually made with whisky, honey and cloves. Typically, this hot drink is poured into a mug that has been heated with boiling water.

If you want to go for different taste you can also try brandy or rum and add an orange slice instead of whisky and cloves. If that doesn’t appeal to you, why not try tequila with a lime slice?

These ingredients make 4 cups so adjust the measures based on the amount of people you have to provide for.

Ingredients:

2 and a half cups of boiling water
Half a cup of whiskey (or alcohol of choice)
Juice from whole lemon
4 tea bags
Half cup of honey

There is always the option to add cloves, lemon wedges and cinnamon sticks as well.

Instructions (spread ingredients over four cups):

Brew tea bags for around 10 minutes.
Pour honey into bottom of cups equally
Pour now brewed tea on top of honey and mix together
Add chosen alcohol and lemon juice adding the amount you wish to make as strong as you like
Add cloves, lemon wedges and cinnamon sticks if you wish to do so

Glogg

Glogg is quite simply a Scandinavian style of mulled wine which is stronger and sweeter than it’s more common counterpart. Raisins and almonds are added to give it extra sweetness and the use of either vodka or brandy to give that stronger taste.

2 teaspoons of cardamom
14 cloves
