St. Peter’s Brewery is based at St. Peter South Elmham, near Bungay in Suffolk. The brewery itself was built in 1996 and is set in a range of traditional former agricultural buildings adjacent to St. Peter’s Hall. St. Peter’s uses water from their own deep borehole with locally malted barley and Kentish hops to produce their range of cask conditioned ales and bottled beers. They brew so-called traditional beers, such as bitters and milds. Up until the nineteenth century, it was common to add fruit and honey to beers to create special seasonal beers and St. Peter’s are replicating this with some of their more unusual beers. Their vision is to introduce delicious, interesting ales and beers to a world market. St Peters Old Style Porter is a blend of a mature old ale and a younger, light beer. Just as a true porter should be. St Peters Old Style Porter is an extremely characterful porter which is dark in colour and complex in flavour and should be served at room temperature. St Peters Old Style Porter won Camra Champion Beer of Suffolk in 2005.

St Peters Old style porter is 500 ML and 5.1 % ABV. This ale has a pleasant taste with an interesting aftertaste a slight rum taste. One I would definitely but again.

This is a complex porter that bursts with flavour. It verges on being as intense as an imperial porter or stout with it’s roasted, dark fruit taste. It has a bitter edge with a muted sweetness. Lovely head to it.

Really intriguing flavour combinations in this. The fruitcake element is subtlely done whilst the rum and raisin notes marry well. Unique porter and one I’d have again.

I’m a regular porter drinker and welcome this to the fold, however this doesn’t suit my palate quite so much as some others because I found it a little thin and bitter for my tastebuds, there again, horses for courses.
Peter Wootton –
Easy drinking porter with subtle after taste of liquorice.

If that’s an “old style” porter, I wish I’d lived in the old times.
Fantastically rich in flavours.
Lots of dark fruits, like sultanas and plums. Definitely dominant by the grains. Sweet aroma, and lightly carbonated.
Very smooth and tasty. Almost a cake in a glass.
