Other Information

Established in 1758, Samuel Smith is Yorkshire’s oldest brewery. They brew a wide range of high quality beers made solely from authentic, natural ingredients. They still use stone Yorkshire squares to ferment their ales and stouts (with the exception of Sovereign and Extra Stout) as well as the same yeast strain used since the 1800s. Samuel Smiths Oatmeal Stout is brewed with well water (the original well at the Old Brewery, sunk in 1758, is still in use, with the hard well water being drawn from 85 feet underground). This oatmeal stout is fermented in ‘stone Yorkshire squares’ to create an almost opaque, wonderfully silky and smooth textured ale with a complex medium dry palate and bittersweet finish. Samuel Smiths Oatmeal Stout is made from water, malted barley, cane sugar, roasted malt, yeast, hops, oatmeal, and carbon dioxide.

For some products supply can be inconsistent, whether that is at the brewery itself or how often we or its supplier imports it. For products that are out of stock, you can sign up to be notified of its return on the product page. From there, as soon as we book the stock in we send an email to you.

Bottles and labels can and do vary. This means that the images shown on our website may not be the same as current stock items. If the bottle or label is important please check before ordering. Please be aware that even if the label looks different, that product will be the same product if it has the same barcode. Because we work from the barcode, if producers does not make us aware of a label change we often miss updates until we are contacted about it. Apologies in advance for this.

Please note that it isn’t always possible to provide a perfect looking bottle/label as this very much depends on the condition they are received in from our supplier.

We occasionally have items available in the shop that are not available to purchase online, usually because they are too fragile or large to post.

Unfortunately we do not offer gift packaging.

We currently use DHL, but we do also trial other couriers alongside from time to time.

We don’t currently ship outside the UK and Ireland but it may be something we offer in the future.

Unfortunately our carriers do not offer a time specific delivery service. We can send orders to arrive on a specific date but we would remind you that whilst 98% of deliveries arrive within the stated timeframe we cannot 100% guarantee the day. Couriers do often offer delivery windows on the day, with the option to rearrange if necessary.

If you are ordering as a gift we would ask you to take this into account when arranging delivery.

Please note that we are unable to offer weekend deliveries.

Our boxes come in 6s, 12s, and 24s. By no means are you required to order in those quantities, but it is worth bearing in mind when ordering. A full box also helps to reduce the small chance of damage, as empty compartments collapsing can be a cause of this.

Please check the tracking first, as they may provide an explanation but we welcome the opportunity to nip issues in the bud. Either call us on 01553 812000 or email our [email protected] to hear from our customer service team. Check out delivery details for more information.

If you have changed your mind for whatever reason, you can consult our returns information, or get in contact on 01553 812000.

  1. Stujago

This is a very nice stout. It has a sweet edge to it. A typical stout black colour with a moderate head. There is some bitterness accompanied by a bit of fizz.

  2. Gareth Roberts

Sweet tasting, smooth and very clean tasting beer, I find with most Beers here a bit expensive for something not bought in a pub, I will order it again.

  3. Steve Hawkins

Oats on the nose. Citrus is also there when sniffed, but only very slightly down in the mix. When sipped, you get a lovely burst of oak, followed by a pinch of tobacco. The finish is malty and drier than expected. A fairly complex drink, which impresses.

  4. Darren J Lockwood

Samuel Smiths Oatmeal Stout is 550 ML and 5% ABV. It has a typical stout taste and leaves a pleasant aftertaste. Nothing special but still a nice ale

  5. Chris Hodgetts

Dark, black stout with a good head. Oaty and very malty, with a yeasty tang. Easy drinking.

  6. A. Muse

A smooth easy drinking stout, not sharp like stouts from the other side of the Irish Sea. Goes well with hearty food.

  7. Ben Jones

Beautifully rich and creamy stout that does exactly what it says on the tin. Not a fan of overly bitter stouts but this was warming and smooth.

  8. Colin Bailey

The perfect bottled beer. It has been my companion during lockdown and I can recommend it’s wonderful qualities in both taste and aroma. Thank you Sam Smith’s for a degree of sanity in very difficult times.

  9. David Gouldson

Roasted malt, coffee and chocolate aromas and flavours. Nice stout.

  10. Peter Fawcett

Really good can’t wait to try more from this brewery

  11. Ian Wilson

A really good stout. Roasted malt, coffee and chocolate flavours. Definitely buy again

  12. Jonathan Giles

    Nice balanced flavours

  13. Neil Ward

This is a really solid stout with complex flavours. Not too “burnt” tasting and not too sweet makes it an enjoyable drink.

  14. Saul Abbott

Another Samuel Smith’s winner, this is a very easy drinking stout that tastes heavier than the abv suggests it should, although it is still lacking in that department in my opinion. Certainly a little oaty, pleasingly smooth. A solid 4 stars, the price alone should make you want to buy it!

  15. John Jones

Sam Smith’s brew some lovely beers and for me this is one of their best, not as sweet as their organic chocolate stout and all the better for it. Roasted malt and oats combine to give a wonderful depth of flavour. There aren’t many other bottled stouts of this quality out there. I recommend and will buy again.

  16. Tobias Gill

Really liked this, a good stout.

  17. Richard Lea

A classic stout in the old style. Also a pint bottle.Bought many times.

  18. Alan Sinclair

Lovely stout, tastes stronger than 5%. Very thick and creamy too.

  19. Neal Haynes

A smooth sweet stout, that pours dark brown, with roasted malt, caramel and chocolate flavours. Very drinkable with a deceptively low ABV.
