With an original gravity of 1050, Double Stout is a refreshing beer with a burnt wheat flavour and a slightly hoppy after taste. Brewed from Maris Otter Pale Ale, Black and Brown malts with a mix of Fuggles, Golding and Challenger hops, this is not at all like standard, (large UK brewers'), stouts; it is more like a Belgian Christmas Ale in character. An interesting beer. Last brewed in 1917, the brewery re-brewed to the original recipe again in 1996. A good beer to accompany a meal of game meats, like pheasant or venison.
