The monks of Burton Abbey were the first recorded brewers in the town. Burton Bridge’s Tickle Brain is a strong abbey style ale, a guess at what those beers would have been like. It is a powerful ale brewed with Northdown hops.
Curious about the name? It comes from Shakespeare’s likeable drunkard, Falstaff “Peace, good pint-pot. Peace, good tickle-brain” in Henry IV, Part 1.
Tickle Brain won West Midlands CAMRA Bottle Beer of the Year 2006.
