BrewDog Elvis Juice is an IPA that uses grapefruit as its centre stage. Brewed by craft beer experts BrewDog, this is described by its makers as “a citrus assault on the senses” thanks to the addition of tart pithy grapefruit peel. Why is it called Elvis Juice? According to BrewDog this beer is “the absolute king in a world of wannabes”, hence the mention of the king himself.
Drinkers can expect intense US hop aromas, combined with gigantic grapefruit notes along with orange and pine. These flavours ride high on a caramel malt base. Is BrewDog Elvis Juice vegan? Yes, you’ll be happy to know that this is one of many BrewDog beers that has been certified as vegan by the Vegan Society. And if you’re wondering about alcohol content, this special brew contains 6.5% AVB, making it 2.15 units of alcohol.
BrewDog Elvis juice has an interesting backstory. A copyright law initially prevented the brewer from naming the beer Elvis due to a risk of it being confused with the Elvis Presley estate. In response to the ruling, company founders James Watt and Mark Dickie actually changed their names to Elvis by deed poll in order to ensure the beer was named after them, and not the king of rock and roll. They eventually won the case, and were allowed to name the beer “BrewDog Elvis Juice” but not “Elvis Juice”. Now that’s dedication!
