Aventinus, the Wheat Doppelbock of Bavaria, has always been known to be the most intense and complex wheat beer in the world. This was the case for the past sixty years, but not anymore…
Up until the 1940’s, Aventinus was shipped all over Bavaria in containers lacking temperature control. Consequently, the precious drink partially froze during transportation. Unaware that the brew was concentrated by the separation of water from the liquid. People were baffled by this unique version of Aventinus. By chance, the first Aventinus Eisbock was created.
Well aware of this story, Hans Peter Drexler, brewmaster of the Schneider brewery, decided to recreate this classic “mistake” in a modern controlled facility. Thus, the Aventinus Eisbock is reborn sixty years later … Prost!

Wow! Allegedly this beer is 12%!! You could session on this beer quite easily! So smooth. This is the first über beer that I’ve enjoyed. It is great because it’s accessible. Very much a wheat beer but it has a zest to it. A lovely banana taste. Great texture. Syrupy but not overly sweet. A feat of brewing!

This is one of the nicest beers I have ever tasted. It is dark, syrupy and complex. Very easy to drink too. I would say that this just has the edge over the other Aventinus beer (Tap 6) which is another special one. I would highly recommend.

A taste sensation! i love it rich sweet dark and syrupy. FULL of flavour. The bottle says 12%… it certainly does not taste like a 12% beer. i have added another one to my next order.

I decided to taste the normal Aventinus first, that one was nice. This Aventinus Eisbock is in a different league. it is smooth with lovely sweet, complex flavours. It is vinous almost port like. Can’t fault it!

Quite a monster to grapple with! Overtones of banana, pepper, spice, richly warming and fruity. One to finish off with.

This beer packs a hell of a punch – more like a wine than a beer! Definitely one for sipping

Don’t be afraid that it’s 12% take it steady savoir this robust dark wheaty beer .

This absolute monster of a beer pours deep, dark brown with a head that dissipates quite quickly, leaving a thin layer which is readily replenished from within. I find the odour hard to describe – there is so much going on – bread, banana, general wheat beer sweetness but there is a spicyness which is just so difficult to describe. The taste is just amazing – almost treacly sweetness yet there is an dry smoky earthiness lingering in the background that only comes to the fore a few minutes after the initial taste. One of the greatest beers I have ever tasted in my life.

A great sipping brew, not to be rushed and to be savoured. Big bold aromas and flavours, a great mix!

A beast of a brew at 12% but sip it slowly and you’ll get all the complex flavours this beer has to offer — robust toffee/caramel, thick molasses, sweet plum/stonefruit and a beautifully spicy/wheaty finish.

Strong and very sweet, definitely designed for sipping. The wheat flavour dominates, it’s excellent.

Never tried this type of beer before, it is one I’ll certainly go back to.. A beer to contemplate the world with. Big, big powerful flavours to be leisurely savoured

Great Eisbock, intense but smooth. Rich flavours of caramel and dried fruits held together with a heavy wheaty body. An indulgence beer.
