Kloster Andechs was founded in the 15th Century and brews at the Andechs Monastery in Bavaria.
The Andechs Weissbier Dunkel was first brewed in 1997 and is the most recent addition to the range of beers produced by the brewery. It uses Hallertau aroma hops and dark barley Gersten malts as well as Bavarian wheat. It weighs in at 5.0% and appears a luxurious chestnut colour with a fine white creamy head. The aroma from the weissbier dunkel is that of fruit notes of banana and pineapples merging with the dark malts providing hints of caramel and cocoa. The beer itself has a soft body and elegance about its light hop bitterness that works wonderfully with the sweet caramel. The dunkel, from Andechs Holy Mountain, then surprises with a refreshingly satisfying finish.

Yes, there are age restrictions in place. In the United Kingdom, the legal age to purchase alcohol is 18 years old. Beers of Europe strictly adheres to these regulations and by agreeing to our Terms and Conditions on checkout you confirm that you are over 18 years old. In store, we operate a Challenge 25 policy, which means that if you appear to be under 25 years old, you will be asked for identification to verify your age.

For some products supply can be inconsistent, whether that is at the brewery itself or how often we or its supplier imports it. For products that are out of stock, you can sign up to be notified of its return on the product page. From there, as soon as we book the stock in we send an email to you.
Bottles and labels can and do vary. This means that the images shown on our website may not be the same as current stock items. If the bottle or label is important please check before ordering. Please be aware that even if the label looks different, that product will be the same product if it has the same barcode. Because we work from the barcode, if producers does not make us aware of a label change we often miss updates until we are contacted about it. Apologies in advance for this.
Please note that it isn’t always possible to provide a perfect looking bottle/label as this very much depends on the condition they are received in from our supplier.
We occasionally have items available in the shop that are not available to purchase online, usually because they are too fragile or large to post.
We do not have a minimum purchase amount, but delivery charges may apply.

We use a variety of thick and sturdy cardboard boxes and dividers to hold each bottle individually. Any remaining spaces are filled with biodegradable air bags to stop movement of the contents. Glasses are wrapped in bubble wrap and cardboard to ensure they arrived in once piece.
When placing your order please add the details at checkout. We regret that if your order has been packed and is ready to despatch that amendments cannot be made.
All of our orders are shipped without any pricing or payment details, these are in the confirmation email. The only paperwork in the box contains a summary of the order and addresses.
On checkout you can add a message to your order.
Unfortunately we do not offer gift packaging.
We currently use DHL, but we do also trial other couriers alongside from time to time.
We don’t currently ship outside the UK and Ireland but it may be something we offer in the future.
Unfortunately our carriers do not offer a time specific delivery service. We can send orders to arrive on a specific date but we would remind you that whilst 98% of deliveries arrive within the stated timeframe we cannot 100% guarantee the day. Couriers do often offer delivery windows on the day, with the option to rearrange if necessary.
If you are ordering as a gift we would ask you to take this into account when arranging delivery.
Please note that we are unable to offer weekend deliveries.
Our boxes come in 6s, 12s, and 24s. By no means are you required to order in those quantities, but it is worth bearing in mind when ordering. A full box also helps to reduce the small chance of damage, as empty compartments collapsing can be a cause of this.

This is a very nice dunkelweizen. I’m not sure that it has a distinct banana flavour but almost a cola like quality with a malty tinge. It pours a deep brown colour with a rapidly expanding head. Very smooth. 4.25/5.

Andechs weissbiers are always very reliable. Great colour and depth of flavour. Good pour and not too fizzy. The dunkel taste comes at the start, but there is the lingering weissbier sweetness at the end.

I had forgotten how good this is. On the nose and the palate initially full of chocolate, coffee and malt, and then later an edge of typical Weissbier flavour. Smooth and full. Deep brown. A very satisfying beer.

As a Dunkel, this is an excellent brew which pours with an almost ‘Guiness-like’ head that lasts. A definite smoky, malty aroma to it with a beautiful dark oak colour. As mentioned in a previous review (below) the first taste is a proper ‘dunkel’ flavour, almost cola like (as another reviewer says) with a bitter beginning which then develops into a sweeter finish. A definite buy again here!

Very enjoyable dark wheat beer. Good head, starts off like a stout and becomes progressively wheatier as you drink it. Throws a small sediment in the bottom of the bottom, giving a clue as to the brewing process.

Pours dark brown to orange with a hazy look and a dense slight off-white head. Light spiced and wheaty aroma. Flavour is medium dry wheaty with a light acidic touch and mild wheaty note. Ends mild acidic and medium spiced.

A lovely weissbier dunkel. Black body with good cream head. The taste is slightly bitter compared to a weissbier. But it is easy to drink and has no persistent hop taste.
I have had bottles with quite a lot of sediment which can be off-putting in a dark beer. But bottles in my last order had only a slight dark wheat sediment so I will order more of this beer.

Fantastic chestnut colour with a fine off white creamy head. Sweet malty smell with a gentle smokey undertone. A taste that is lightly spiced but for me a weak body that just doesn’t work. Feels a little dull.

This is very good but it does not taste like a dunkel at all, there is no hint of coffee or chocolate, if it is wasn’t brown you would think it was a hefeweisse. The only give away it is does have a slight bitterness. It is good though hence the 4 stars.

Not as sweet as a traditional weissbier, it has a malty taste and aroma.
