A German version of a Belgian Christmas Ale, This Reinheitsgebot dark beer drinks smoothly and cleanly, but delivers a very direct punch. Sweet on the tongue with a roasted malt and burnt wheat taste, this ‘double bock’ beer is for serious, studied and not too frequent contemplation. Drink cold to counter act the sweetness; not recommended to accompany food. This beer is a meal in itself.

For some products supply can be inconsistent, whether that is at the brewery itself or how often we or its supplier imports it. For products that are out of stock, you can sign up to be notified of its return on the product page. From there, as soon as we book the stock in we send an email to you.

Bottles and labels can and do vary. This means that the images shown on our website may not be the same as current stock items. If the bottle or label is important please check before ordering. Please be aware that even if the label looks different, that product will be the same product if it has the same barcode. Because we work from the barcode, if producers does not make us aware of a label change we often miss updates until we are contacted about it. Apologies in advance for this.

Please note that it isn’t always possible to provide a perfect looking bottle/label as this very much depends on the condition they are received in from our supplier.

We occasionally have items available in the shop that are not available to purchase online, usually because they are too fragile or large to post.

We do not have a minimum purchase amount, but delivery charges may apply.

For orders between £25.01 and £60, delivery is charged at £5.99 (3 working days) or £7.99 (next working day).  Some areas are excluded and will incur extra charges. Please see postcodes listed in our Terms and Conditions.

Unfortunately we do not offer gift packaging.

We currently use DHL, but we do also trial other couriers alongside from time to time.

We don’t currently ship outside the UK and Ireland but it may be something we offer in the future.

Unfortunately our carriers do not offer a time specific delivery service. We can send orders to arrive on a specific date but we would remind you that whilst 98% of deliveries arrive within the stated timeframe we cannot 100% guarantee the day. Couriers do often offer delivery windows on the day, with the option to rearrange if necessary.

If you are ordering as a gift we would ask you to take this into account when arranging delivery.

Please note that we are unable to offer weekend deliveries.

Our boxes come in 6s, 12s, and 24s. By no means are you required to order in those quantities, but it is worth bearing in mind when ordering. A full box also helps to reduce the small chance of damage, as empty compartments collapsing can be a cause of this.

Please check the tracking first, as they may provide an explanation but we welcome the opportunity to nip issues in the bud. Either call us on 01553 812000 or email our [email protected] to hear from our customer service team. Check out delivery details for more information.

If you have changed your mind for whatever reason, you can consult our returns information, or get in contact on 01553 812000.

  1. Stujago

This is a very smooth dark beer. Luxuriant and sweet. It doesn’t have the same intense dark fruit flavours of other doppelbocks but it is very pleasant. Malty undertones.

  2. Steven Allen

This beer has a very complex flavour. A hint of ginger, caramel and lemon and then a massive Bourbon whiskey finish! If you like Jack Daniels then this is going to appeal! It is very sweet and not a beer that I’d drink in quantity, something to savour! It’s feels more like a whiskey and coke cocktail than a beer! I loved it!

  3. Alexey Nekhaenko

Drinks not as heavy as you’d expect but clearly leaves the mark afterwards. Complex but not excessive taste. Something for those who like tough beer evenings

  4. Gavin H

An excellent example of a dark Doppelbock. You know it’s a powerful beer from the first taste, plenty of malty and dark chocolate flavours coming through strongly, with the alcohol never far behind. A lovely dark maroon-brown colour and a creamy head add to the feeling that this is something special

  5. John Sanders

If I was told that I could only drink one beer for the rest of my life, and this Doppelbock was it, I wouldn’t complain. It is a fantastic beer, so complex with so much going on.

The pour is typical of the style – deep mahogany brown which glows almost red when you hold it up to the light, and a lovely velvety beige head deep enough to paint anyone’s moustache. The smell is incredible – acrid hops, chocolate, caramel, ginger, nutmeg, cloves, Christmas Pudding and so much fruity, spicy goodness.

Now the taste – WOW!! Chocolate, toffee, figs, prunes and coffee – not the instant stuff but a great coffee made with fresh grounds – the sweetness is there but subdued, and the warming alcohol reaches all the parts you want it to. Nothing in the mouthfeel or the aftertaste subdue this magnificent beer – silky-smooth and goes on for ever.

    Simply perfect.

  6. Kristin

Lovely, sweet, smooth, complex. The alcohol does not dominate the taste, so you get the complexity of flavours. Very pleasant, one for my favourite list

  7. James Murray

Excellent dopplebock. Dark and glorious in the glass, rather sweet on the palate but packs a punch at 7.1% very drinkable at this strength and not all boozy. Delicious liquorice and toffee notes on the nose. A very pleasant beer

  8. Sam Dutton

Not my favourite. (I think I’ve been spoiled by Schneider Weisse.) Big flavour, but mostly quite sweet. I just didn’t get much complexity, or anything much on the nose. Don’t get me wrong — it’s a well-made, easy-drinking Doppelbock. Might have to try again!

  9. James Bryant

Best drunk on draft on a summer evening where it’s made at the monastery/brewery Kloster Andechs, on a hill near Herrsching beside the Ammersee SW of Munich (you can get there on the S-Bahn). A beautiful place.

I normally drink a litre, but one evening people bought me two more when I wasn’t really paying attention and although I was a little unsteady when I got up to go I had no trace of a hangover in the morning.

But even bottled it’s the best dark doppelboch that I know – drink and enjoy!

  10. Steven Nicholas

Decent enough DB. Dark and fruity but isn’t the smoothest. Alchohol taste comes through quite a bit but still good.

  11. WJ

Kloster Andechs beers are excellent. if you like bocks but have never tried a dunkel this is a good place to start as it has a pleasant sweetness than most 5% ABV dunkels do not have.

  12. Tobias Gill

Disappointed. I really like their Heller Bock and I love Doppelbocks in general, but this is lacking in all the interesting flavours that make the style so good.

  13. David Levy

My beer arrived in very good time and although there was a problem with the carrier it was resolved quickly and without fuss. I have always been very happy using Beers of Europe

  14. Xavier Crepin

A very nice dunkel beer, malty and easy to drink with a good value price

  15. FoggyMountainMan

Tough to beat the Lowenbrau Triumphator but this is very good. The best solution is to get a couple of both.

  16. Luke Manley

Great beer. And good value for money in this category.

  17. Paul C

    Excellent Dopplebock.
Sweet, malty, spicy with coffee and chocolate aromas.
Smooth texture, taken slowly and cool rather than cold to appreciate the flavours.
Strong, but easily drinkable – not for the faint hearted.
