Other Information

Kaltenberg König Ludwig Dunkel is a classic German dark lager brewed by Kaltenberg Brewery in Bavaria, Germany. This beer is known for its rich and malty flavour profile, with hints of caramel and chocolate notes that give it a smooth and satisfying taste. The use of roasted barley in the brewing process gives this beer its characteristic dark colour and adds depth to the overall flavour. With an ABV of 5.1%, König Ludwig Dunkel is easy-drinking and pairs well with hearty German cuisine like sausages, schnitzel or pretzels. Whether you’re enjoying a cold one at a local biergarten or you are enjoying it at home, Kaltenberg König Ludwig Dunkel is sure to please any fan of traditional German beers. Prost!

Because we work from the barcode, if producers does not make us aware of a label change we often miss updates until we are contacted about it. Apologies in advance for this.

Please note that it isn’t always possible to provide a perfect looking bottle/label as this very much depends on the condition they are received in from our supplier.

We occasionally have items available in the shop that are not available to purchase online, usually because they are too fragile or large to post.

Unfortunately we do not offer gift packaging.

We currently use DHL, but we do also trial other couriers alongside from time to time.

We don’t currently ship outside the UK and Ireland but it may be something we offer in the future.

Unfortunately our carriers do not offer a time specific delivery service. We can send orders to arrive on a specific date but we would remind you that whilst 98% of deliveries arrive within the stated timeframe we cannot 100% guarantee the day. Couriers do often offer delivery windows on the day, with the option to rearrange if necessary.

If you are ordering as a gift we would ask you to take this into account when arranging delivery.

Please note that we are unable to offer weekend deliveries.

Our boxes come in 6s, 12s, and 24s. By no means are you required to order in those quantities, but it is worth bearing in mind when ordering. A full box also helps to reduce the small chance of damage, as empty compartments collapsing can be a cause of this.

Please check the tracking first, as they may provide an explanation but we welcome the opportunity to nip issues in the bud. Either call us on 01553 812000 or email our [email protected] to hear from our customer service team. Check out delivery details for more information.

  1. Otto The Bier Dude

Pours dark reddish brown with a stable off-white head. Sweetish and malty aroma with ripe fruits and a hint of caramel. Taste rather similar, sweetish and fruity but has some dryish and spicy flavour too. A tasty and well-balanced Dunkel.

  2. Stujago

This is a pleasant booze. It smells quite bready. It pours nicely with a substantial head which stays. It tastes like subtle dark fruit, maltiness and roasted nuttiness. The fizz gives it a slightly spicy feel.

  3. A Burn

For me personally, this is the best beer I have ever tasted. Have drunk this in Bravaria when visiting the fairytale castles of King Ludwig, and I was blown away by its taste.

Highly recommended if you like a dark flavoursome beer with plenty of character.

  4. Gareth Roberts

    Classic dunkel, malty.

  5. Paul C

My first Dunkel from this brewery.
Classically dark, malty and nutty tastes and aromas.
Well balanced,it pours a creamy head and leaves a slightly sweet aftertaste.
    Really enjoyable.

  6. Kristin

It does have a smokey/burnt flavour. Malty flavour, but not quite sweet enough for me

  7. Richard Martin

Not that different to the weissbier dunkel. Still plenty of flavour with lovely colour and head when poured. Refreshing taste, but becomes a little harsh if it becomes a little warm. Luckily makes for quite easy drinking though.

  8. Richard Allen

A pretty classic Dunkel. Malty and yeasty, but not overly so. A long aftertaste. Easy drinking. A good complement to a rich meal.

  9. mark burman

deep dark brown mocha coffee taste fine beer

  10. Kris

A solid Dunkel from a brewery I hadn’t tried before. Would get this again.

  11. Matthew W

Pours a murky brown with moderate sized beige head, nice retention and lacing.
Aroma of bread, raisins, light roast, hay, spice. Solid.
Taste is sweet malts, light roast, chocolate, raisins, fruity tang, grassy bitterness in the finish.
    Light bodied, light oiliness, slick.
    Good Dunkel.

  12. Gavin Harrison

Very enjoyable Dunkel-Tmavy style beer. Typically dark brown with a creamy , though not long-lasting head. Good bitter malt/chocolate flavours but not a long-lasting aftertaste. If you want a good few beers but don’t want your nearest and dearest to know just how many you’ve had when you kiss them goodnight, this is the one to go for!!!

  13. Chris Meechan

Quite light weight for a dunkel. Dark, malty, banana green with hints of fig.

  14. WJ

Very chilled for a dunkel, the malt flavours are not overpowering at all, has a slight sweetness which was unexpected.

  15. Alan Sinclair

A nice German Dunkel. Very drinkable but I’d still prefer the Kostritzer Schwarzbier.

  16. FoggyMountainMan

Highly enjoyable dunkel – nutty caramel beauty in a glass

  17. Jens

An amazing top-fermented dark wheat beer, notes of caramel and toasted grain with a very pleasant and extremely long finish.

  18. Daniel Walker

Smooth, very malty with a tendency to froth, and quite a good head-retention. Burnt flavours predominate. Slightly sweet not overly so. A good accompaniment to red meat or roasted vegetables, but enjoyable on its own. Definitely a beer to ‘try before you die’!
