Other Information

Fruh Kolsch is brewed at the Cölner Hofbräu Früh brewery, which was founded by Peter Joseph Früh in 1904. From its conception to this day, it is brewed under the Reinheitsgebot, or German Purity Law, showing its flawless approach to competing with the best German beers around. In order to brew kolsch, you must adhere to one simple rule, you must brew in Cologne. This is in accordance to the Kölsch Konvention of 1986, which states kolsch cannot be brewed outside of the state.

Whilst plenty of other brewers across the world produce kolsch style beer, they cannot call it such, making it a style that is very much in demand. Kolsch beer is warm fermented to close to 20°C before lagering in cooler temperatures. Fruh Kolsch, in particular, is a top fermented beer and is light gold in colour. This refreshing beer provides the lucky individual with a crisp hoppy finish and a substantial carbonation leading to a good lasting head. The exportation of Fruh is increasing to meet demand and it is easy to see why when such high quality ingredients, mixed with a reputation for its style protected by law, equals one of our best-selling beers.

Because we work from the barcode, if producers does not make us aware of a label change we often miss updates until we are contacted about it. Apologies in advance for this.

Please note that it isn’t always possible to provide a perfect looking bottle/label as this very much depends on the condition they are received in from our supplier.

We occasionally have items available in the shop that are not available to purchase online, usually because they are too fragile or large to post.

Unfortunately we do not offer gift packaging.

We currently use DHL, but we do also trial other couriers alongside from time to time.

We don’t currently ship outside the UK and Ireland but it may be something we offer in the future.

Unfortunately our carriers do not offer a time specific delivery service. We can send orders to arrive on a specific date but we would remind you that whilst 98% of deliveries arrive within the stated timeframe we cannot 100% guarantee the day. Couriers do often offer delivery windows on the day, with the option to rearrange if necessary.

If you are ordering as a gift we would ask you to take this into account when arranging delivery.

Please note that we are unable to offer weekend deliveries.

Our boxes come in 6s, 12s, and 24s. By no means are you required to order in those quantities, but it is worth bearing in mind when ordering. A full box also helps to reduce the small chance of damage, as empty compartments collapsing can be a cause of this.

Please check the tracking first, as they may provide an explanation but we welcome the opportunity to nip issues in the bud. Either call us on 01553 812000 or email our [email protected] to hear from our customer service team. Check out delivery details for more information.

My favourite Kölsch from my favourite place!
I’m not usually a fan of lager but on my first visit to Cologne I was introduced to Kölsch and this variety has remained my all time favourite lager ever since 😋 Some other Kölsch lagers can have a stronger flavour but I prefer this very palatable, light and refreshing lager. Over the moon when we first found out we could get it from Beers of Europe and have been ordering from you since 2010 for a great price, quick delivery and a fabulous service! 🤗

  2. Luis Branco

An extremely refreshing Kölsch! Light, clean, sweet and fruity, it is very smooth on the palate. I can’t wait to taste it again, but next time in Cologne. And thanks to Beers of Europe I know I’ll love the experience!

  3. Jeff

    Another great German lager.
Light and refreshing and best served ice cold! A quality lager from cologne which is brewed to the highest standard. You won’t be disappointed

  4. Maximilian Evans

A great beer with an unique great taste! Well worth a try if you enjoy pilsener and or lager. 5/5.

  5. Derek B

This brings back happy memories drinking Kolsch in bars around Cologne cathedral. Light, bitter and very refreshing and tastes very nearly as good at home as it does in a Kolsch bar. Excellent beer.

  6. Andy Nichols

Nice easy drinking lager. I’ve tried a couple of kolsch beers and this is the best of had. Very smooth with a fruity end. Very easy drinking and enjoyable.

  7. Robert Harkin

A beer I often buy, easy drinking and very crisp. Best served icy cold.

  8. Kris Marina

Crisp and refreshing. This must be chilled before drinking

  9. Dean Griffiths

I have been to Köln many times primarily because I love the Kolsch beer. It’s great that although I can’t travel there at the moment I can still buy it online from BOE, the Fruh is the best of those available.

  10. Darren Robinson

The best German beer on the market !!!!

Visited Germany many times and this is best beer I’ve tasted.

So pleased I’ve found somewhere in the UK that stocks it.

  11. DW

I was sceptical. The label didn’t look German enough for a start. I judge beers by their labels you see. Well, how wrong was I? It’s really very nice indeed. Needs a new label though.

  12. Fin

Moderately better on tap, served in the traditional small glass on a wooden rack, but for me, this is an underappreciated German session beer. Light and refreshing, superb with a curry!

  13. Catriona MacKechnie

This is the Kolsch to beat. A lovely light, fruity beer with hints of strawberry.

  14. Alastair_H

Having spent quite a bit of time working in Cologne I got quite accustomed to Kolsch. Fruh is one of the better ones 2nd place in my book, also try Gaffel if you can find it – that’s my favourite. Glad I’ve found somewhere which sells it in the UK.

  15. Gavin H

Beautifully clear, one of the clearest beers I’ve ever seen. Subtle hoppy taste, light and fruity. A great session beer at a relatively light 4.8%.

  16. Andrej

First time I am trying this style, so I cannot really compare to other kolsch beers. It is a simple easily drinkable beer (simple in a good way).

  17. Steve Lee

This is a very satisfying beer, plenty of flavour yet refreshing and light. An interesting style or which this seems to be a good example. Will order again.

  18. Luke

Very drinkable. Light in taste but with a subtle sharpness, it is a nice balance between the stronger Belgian beers I typically prefer and pils. I would order again for sure.

  19. Alan Hastings

Extremely refreshing drink with a fresh crisp taste that left me crying out for more

  20. Paul Boniface

This is my favourite German beer. Light, clean and absolutely superb from first to last mouthful.

  21. Kul

A clear, bright light gold colour with a crisp hoppy finish and a a high level of carbonation leading to a wonderful white volumous head that lasts.

Smells fantastic a pleasing soft aroma that invites you in and doesn’t dissapoint. Feels great on the tongue, silky smooth, gentle lingering after notes. I would have this beer again and again, a firm favourite.

  22. Michael Moore

Very good quality beer, one of the best outside of Bavaria.

  23. Peter Nixon

My favourite German beer which we discovered in Cologne. Never thought it would be available in UK so very pleased to be able to buy it. Excellent fresh tasting lager style kolsch.

  24. Andrew Pople

Loved this. Sharp, crisp and dry. Very drinkable and refreshing. Great summer beer!

  25. Mike Faulkner

Extremely good service as usual quality of the beer was great and in this hot weather slipped down a teat would recommend Beers of Europe to friends. Have never had any problems with them and the customer service is excellent

  26. Harry Watson

One of the best Kolsch Biers from the bottle. Not as good as the draught but still a great tasting beer.

  27. Milan Macurak

I was overlooking this beauty for far too long. Very refreshing, crispy, somehow lighter beer with unbelievable colour. I drank this like water without noticing I ran out in one night ! Highly recommended if you are looking for something not heavy. On my next order definitely, if available. Cheers Beers of Europe.

  28. Tom Harris

This brew is one of the finest of its kind. Typical of the Kölsch style, Früh is delightfully light and moreish, so be sure to order plenty of it, as you won’t want to run out of it before your thirst is well and truly slaked!

  29. Kris

The classic Kolsch beer that is well worth a dabble if you like lagers/pils but want to try something with a bit more complexity.

  30. david keel

Many years ago my wife and I visited Koln (Cologne) many times. There was a small beer cellar and the old woman owner always shouted Kolsch to her partner to bring up another barrel. This is that same beer and tastes as good as I remember it.

    Give it a try!

  31. Stoose

My fave beer so easy to drink.

  32. Ian Whitehouse

All Kölsch are amazing beers 🍻 Of these Früh is the best (in my humble opinion). Happy memories of a lifetime ago drinking in a certain bar on Alexanderplatz 🤪 Stuff money can’t buy…all expertly delivered by Beers of Europe 😊 Cheers guys!!!

  33. Mr S

This was ok, but rated at 2.5/5 means it was nothing special.

  34. Matthew

Thought I would give this one a try – pleasantly surprised – very nice clean crisp and flavoursome beer – I will buy again

  35. Russell Castley-Adams

Have tried all the Kolsch on BOE and this is my favourite. Smooth and easy drinking.

  36. Barrie Taylor

    My wife’s favourite.

  37. Mark Woodward

A good lager-style beer – I regularly purchase this beer.

  38. Robbie

A very pleasant beer. Didn’t completely blow me away, fairly standard, but still a better quality than what you might get in the UK pubs.

  39. PK

A great standard pilsner, if in any doubt about choice try this and compare it with what you get in a pub, cold not very tasty gassy lagers, again a slight after taste of citrus and a bit peppery, but not unplesant, will buy again.

  40. Jens

Typical top-fermented Kölsch, very smooth and refreshing. I prefer this on tap, but the bottled version is almost as enjoyable.

  41. John Prideaux

Lagered, but not a lager as such as it’s top fermented like Ales? Better than I remembered as some Koelsch beers have an odd after taste, this one doesn’t. A pleasant enough pale ale type beer but a decent Czech or German pilsner would still have the edge for me though.
