Other Information

Franziskaner was founded by the same family as Spaten and is a Munich brewery with plenty of history and plenty to offer, although not with the same world famous reputation as its sibling. The Franziskaner Kristal Weissbier provides a refreshing wheat beer taste without the yeast to haze the beer, leading to the name crystal, because of its clean appearance in comparison to usual wheat beers. It has malts from both wheat and barley as well as local hops from Munich which, along with the top fermenting yeast strain and its own well 200m below to provide the water, result in a top quality beer with great ingredients leading to a superb taste.
Like other dunkels, it is the large quantities of dark roasted malt that separates it from a generic hefe-weissbier. A dunkel balances the refreshing and easy drinking nature of a weissbier and the complexity of much stronger beverages resulting in hidden notes you didn’t think were possible to extract from a wheat beer. This one in particular is a deep brown with a cream coloured head, which of course it gets from its dark nature and strong yeast. It has a mouth-watering aroma, with notes of fresh bread, nuts as well as caramel. A velvety feel is present on the palate with a refreshing tang to finish. At 5% it is an easy drinking dunkel that can perfectly accompany a venison dish or a dessert.

We currently use DHL, but we do also trial other couriers alongside from time to time.

We don’t currently ship outside the UK and Ireland but it may be something we offer in the future.

Unfortunately our carriers do not offer a time specific delivery service. We can send orders to arrive on a specific date but we would remind you that whilst 98% of deliveries arrive within the stated timeframe we cannot 100% guarantee the day. Couriers do often offer delivery windows on the day, with the option to rearrange if necessary.

If you are ordering as a gift we would ask you to take this into account when arranging delivery.

Please note that we are unable to offer weekend deliveries.

Our boxes come in 6s, 12s, and 24s. By no means are you required to order in those quantities, but it is worth bearing in mind when ordering. A full box also helps to reduce the small chance of damage, as empty compartments collapsing can be a cause of this.

Please check the tracking first, as they may provide an explanation but we welcome the opportunity to nip issues in the bud. Either call us on 01553 812000 or email our [email protected] to hear from our customer service team. Check out delivery details for more information.

  1. Stujago

This is a great dunkelweizen. The Franziskaner hefeweizen is fantastic but I prefer this one. Very refreshing. It has classic weissbier flavours and I could taste cola! Exceptionally smooth.

  2. Luis Branco

Excellent Dunkelweizen! Dark in colour, malty, smooth on the palate, with hints of banana. The sweetness doesn’t prevent it to be very refreshing. It is very aromatic and full-bodied with a pleasant level of carbonation.

  3. Adam Lister

For those who enjoy the normal Weissbier, this Dunkel Weissbier is a must. All the tast of a good Franziskaner with all the great dark beer qualities.

  4. Richard Martin

Has the depth of taste of a dunkel, yet the slight sweetness of a Hefeweizen. Foamy head and nice aroma; not too fizzy to drink so goes down easily. Smooth aftertaste as well. Very pleasant.

  5. Charlie Johnson

a really flavorsome wheaty dunkel, the Franny hefeweizen is a standard for me…always some in the fridge. this is the first time ive tried the dunkel,… a franny and more!… love it!

  6. Gareth Roberts

Nice and smokey I’m seriously considering Munich for my next trip now.

  7. Chris H

A sweet weissbier taste complimented by the toasted malts of the Dunkel component of this drink. Had a lovely spicy noted finish. Would definitely buy again.

  8. Steven Allen

This is an excellent wheat beer, heavy carbonation ( very fizzy) lots of malt with a sweet caramel finish!. A very nice texture, none of that soapyness that some wheat beers have, more like a pilsner. A very enjoyable and tasty beer.

  9. Otto TheBierDude

A dark brown dunkelweizen with orange highlights. Good head. The aroma has notes of fruits, caramel, malts and spices. The taste is good balanced and quite tasty, with notes of fruits, caramel and malts. Long delicious finish.

  10. Eric Akrill

A fairly muddy-brown colour is what first draws the eye with this ineteresting Dunkel which pours with a reasonably thick head. The aroma has a burnt maltish nose to it with a chocolate/caramel background. This is borne out on first tasting, followed by the citrusy, spicy and quite smokey finish with a lingering after-taste. Very palatable and I would buy it again.

  11. WJ

Didn’t think I would like dunkel beers till I tried one of these. Expecting a hit of coffee was pleasantly surprised by a wheat nutty flavour. Superb colour as well which made it more inviting.

  12. Kul

A deep brown with a cream coloured fine head, it has a light pleasantly bready aroma, as well as sweet caramel. A smooth feel on the palate a little light aswell as a slightly weak body.

There are better dunkels out there.

  13. Gavin Harrison

A good German dark beer, but in many ways untypical of a wheat beer. Slightly cloudy but not overly so. Good head. Flavour is driven by malty, chocolatey notes with only a hint of citrus and banana bread. You could almost call it a beer with an identity crisis, but better to simply consider it a rather pleasant drink,

  14. Paul C

    Decent Dunkelweizen.
Pours with a good, creamy head.
Slightly malty and spicy, nice texture but ,for me,lacks depth of taste and flavour.compared to similar styles.
