Dampfbier Schmelzer Hoibe is a light Helles lager from Dampfbierbrauerei Zwiesel. Based in the German town of Zwiesel since 1889, Dampfbierbrauerei Zwiesel brews a range of traditional German lagers and wheat beers. They’re best known for their steam lager, or ‘Dampfbier’, which is where the name of the brewery comes from.
Dampfbier Schmelzer Hoibe is a 3.5% ABV Helles lager and is traditionally designed to quench the thirst of manual labourers. The word ‘Hoibe’ refers to a common Bavarian term for 0.5L beer. Pouring a pale golden colour, Dampfbier Schmelzer Hoibe offers up crisp malt aromas and a slightly earthy hop note. The flavour is balanced and delicate – perfect to refresh the palate and quench the thirst after a hard day’s work.

It is very difficult to find a not so good German beer, but I managed to do so. Even though the label looks fantastic, the beer is flat, too thin, and tasteless. I just couldn’t finish it!

A brilliant easy-drinking lager, crisp with an amazing depth of flavour given the low alcohol content. Highly recommended though probably more of a summer beer.

Clear yellow with a white head. Aroma is sweet, malty and fruity. Flavor is medium sweet and light bitter. Sweet finish.

This is not a strong tasting lager due to the 3.5% ABV but it is refreshing and smooth. Very much a session beer. A muted helles flavour.

Quite a distinctive beer, good body, an unusual but pleasant taste and very refreshing. Definitely a high quality session beer that I will definitely buy again.

This has excellent depth of flavour considering the low ABV, it’s not too sweet and easy to drink. Most enjoyable.
