Rodenbach Grand Cru consists of one-third young beer and two-thirds oak-matured beer for two years. The result is a complex beer with a great deal of wood and esters, vinous and with a very long aftertaste, just like a vintage wine.
Michael Jackson rightly called this beer a “World Classic” and “the Burgundy of Belgium”.
Rodenbach Grand Cru spends a much longer time on average in the oak casks of the Roeselare cathedral of beer, which results in a more pronounced version of this beer style.
Re-freshing –
Not everybody would jump red beers, but I recommend this beer. Tasty, not too sour and impressive in flavour, it is certainly not lacking in quality and refreshing for less ‘hoppy adverse’ drinkers.
Stujago –
This is quite a leftfield beer if you are used to lager/ale/stout. Sour but to a tolerable level that won’t bubble your stomach acid. If you want some bite, this is your beer! 4.5/5
Ben L –
As a fan of a flanders red ale, this was a great new experience for my palette. Very fruity and sour, with almost coke notes to the slight herbalness of it. Could be more sweet for my tastebuds.
Mark Beare –
My all time favourite red sour. Can’t fault it or get enough!
Kristin –
You get an initial very sour taste, but it fades nicely with a long vinous finish. This is a more ‘grown up’ taste than the Rodenbach classic (which is entry level sour).
Adam Randall –
Very well balanced Flemish brown, lots vinous, oaky mustiness and a beautiful malty tanginess to go with it. One to linger over, and far better than the standard Rodenbach.
Rebecca Hampson –
Even better than the original Rodenbach. Superb cherry kick.
ISC –
Flemish red ale is my favourite beer style and, apart from Rodenbach Alexander, Rodenbach GC is my favourite example of this style of sour beer. Definitely a 5 star+ for me.
Tony –
Didn’t like this at all after the first sip,but it grew on me as I finished the bottle. Not a great beer but ok,if a little watery.
Jeremy Davis –
One of my favorite beers of all time.
A bit cherry, a bit sour, perfectly balanced.
Chris Meechan –
Tart cherries with a nice oakey lactose flavour. Lovely Flanders red ale.
Brudacom –
One of the best. Looks great in the glass, has a good balance of cherry and sour and slips down quite well. In my top five and one to order again and again.
