Engelszell Gregorius Trappistenbier is a Trappist quadrupel ale from Austrian brewery, Stift Engelszell. Engelszell Abbey was authenticated by the International Trappist Association in 2012, and at the time was only the second brewery outside Belgium to be given accredited Trappist status. Gregorius is a rich Belgian quadrupel ale, brimming with sweet, fruity and roasted flavours.
Pouring a deep chestnut brown colour, Engelszell Gregorius Trappistenbier offers up sumptuous aromas of honey, prunes and brown sugar. The flavour is sweet, with the taste of candied fruit mingling with honey and brown bread. Buy Engelszell Gregorius Trappistenbier to explore an Austrian take on a Trappist quadrupel ale.

Pours a dark brown lovely firm coffee coloured head. In the nose black bread, liquorice, molasses Tastes of nutty chocolate and roasted dark fruit. Wow the vinous sweet and sour finish hits the spot. My knowledge of Austrian brewing has been enhanced.

An Austrian take on the Belgian quadrupel beers. A dark strong sweet malty beer and I must say as good as some of the first class Belgians…

Tried this while ticking off the official trappist breweries. This one certainly lives up to the high bar of the trappist name – delivering some deep malty flavours amongst the punchy weight.
