Swedish Cider

Swedish Cider

Traditional Swedish cider varies greatly from the traditional ciders from Britain and France. It is very sweet and often flavoured with berries and other fruits. By law Swedish stores cannot sell cider with less than 15% juice content under the name cider. Swedish cider is the perfect drink to enjoy on a hot summer’s day.

History of Swedish cider
Some people believe that Scandinavia is the original home of cider. It certainly has a long standing history in Sweden, dating all the way back to the Roman times. Kopparberg is one of the country’s market leaders and produces the world’s best-selling pear cider. The company was set up in 1882 when thirty six separate breweries joined together in the Swedish town of Kopparberg.

Apple festivals in Sweden
The Swedish region of Österlen is known for its fruit growing industry. The village of Kivik is one of the best places to find apples for cider making. Every year they have an apple harvest market that takes place at the end of September. It is the perfect chance to celebrate the apple, sample Swedish ciders and admire the creative artwork made from the fruit itself!

The Swedish choose their apples for their taste and level of acidity. They blend different types of cider apples together to create the perfect balance of flavour. The apples are pressed and squeezed to obtain the juice, which then goes on to be fermented for a couple of weeks.

Here at Beers of Europe we are proud to offer our customers the best selection of ciders from around the globe. If you fancy trying something refreshingly different, then why not take a look at our fantastic range of traditional Swedish ciders?
