“The ‘Chocolat’ are our first foray into barrel ageing. We toyed with the idea of producing a pair of contrasting chocolate stouts for some time before settling on these two – a white chocolate inspired by the good old Milky Bar and a dark chocolate with its inspiration lost somewhere in the Black Forest. Both hit the spot!

We used Super Pale malt on the white one to give us as a pale a start as possible, piled in Centennial and Galena hops and then aged the beer for 6 months in oak bourbon casks with loads of vanilla pods to give a creamy flavour. It’s really picked up the flavours from the barrel to give a really boozy, creamy, vanilla finish –Milky Bars or what? Try it with ice cream or an Eton Mess

For the dark one we added cherries to the end of the boil and dry chocced it with cocoa nibs before ageing in brandy barrels for 6 months. Think black forest gateaux and you’ll know what we were thinking.“

We believe that these beers are definitely something to try this Easter, so why not check them out and Hop Studio beers by clicking here.
