Gaelic for ‘Big Ocean’, An Cuan Mor is another maritime character from Laphroaig. This whisky begins life in first fill ex-American white oak bourbon casks before being moved into European barrels. This rich and spicy whisky becomes a perfect marriage of local peat, American soft and spicy caramel tones with European oak lending big, rich fruit flavours. Non-chilled filtered is the way for this whisky and with the distillery manager’s signature, the bottle is more than ready.
An intriguing burnt orange in colour, sweet and spicy notes develop on the nose with a full body. The palate is well aware of the pepper, with a slight saltiness too and the oak following shortly. The Big Ocean then packs walnuts and peat in the long lasting finish that makes this whisky Captain of the Atlantic.
