Alaskan Brewing Co
Independently owned and operated since 1986, Alaskan Brewing Co is the first brewery opened in Juneau since the prohibition. Drawn to the beauty and adventure of Alaska, Marcy and Geoff Larson aspired to create a livelihood, brewing beer. As a couple they brought a unique skill set. Geoff was a chemical engineer with a love for home brewing and his wife a quest-seeking accountant.
Marcy, ever the explorer, discovered shipping records from Douglas City Brewing Co. (1899-1907) that listed ingredients for popular beers with a newspaper article that described the way it was brewed. They created a batch at home and immediately realized that their vision could become a reality.
Brew house innovation
Produced using environmentally conscious methods, Alaskan brewing became the first craft brewery in the U.S to install and operate a Co2 reclamation system. They also employ the Belgian based brewing technology, allowing a reduced amount of water, hops and malt needed to make the beer. Seeking the most efficient methods of production yet not compromising on quality, it is easy to see why Alaskan Brewing is the most award-winning craft brewery in the history of the Great American Beer Festival. As if that wasn’t enough to tempt you, they even donate a percentage of their tips, collected from their free tasting tours, to charity.
Uniquely, their adventurous tasting beers can be aged like a fine wine and even used to cook beautiful meals with. Reflecting many of the same characteristics of beers that were first brewed in the gold rush era, Alaskan brewing has created great tastes for all of the seasons. Whether it’s a dark, smoky robust flavor you seek to accompany you through the cold nights of winter or a complex, crisp and refreshing beer to compliment a crab salad, Alaskan beer is sure to win over your taste palate.
